- The 96th Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, featured funny moments and emotional wins.
- "Oppenheimer" dominated with seven Oscar wins including best picture.
The 96th Academy Awards on Sunday were full of show-stopping performances, hilarious bits, and career-making wins.
Here's a photo recap of the biggest moments from the 2024 Oscars.
Black was the color of the night on the 2024 Oscars red carpet.
Everyone from Danielle Brooks and Sandra Hüller to Jamie Lee Curtis and Carey Mulligan chose black gowns for Hollywood's biggest night.
Even Margot Robbie, who often wears pink "Barbie"-inspired looks for events connected to the film, went for a more understated black Versace dress.
Da'Vine Joy Randolph gave a passionate acceptance speech when she won best supporting actress.
Randolph, who won for her performance in "The Holdovers," paid special tribute to her former acting coach, Ran Laroux, in her speech.
"When I was the only Black girl in that class, you saw me and you told me I was enough," she said. "I told you I didn't see myself. You said, 'That's fine, we're going to forge our own path.'"
Randolph ended by saying, "For so long, I've always wanted to be different. Now, I realize I just needed to be myself. I thank you for seeing me."
The speech left her "The Holdovers" costar Paul Giamatti in tears.
Billie Eilish gave a soulful performance of "What Was I Made For?" accompanied by her brother, Finneas O'Connell.
Later in the night, the sibling duo won their second Academy Award for best original song for "What Was I Made For?" from the "Barbie" soundtrack.
It makes Eilish, 22, the youngest person ever to win two Academy Awards. She previously won best original song with her brother, 26, for their James Bond song "No Time to Die" in 2022.
Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling poked fun at the "Barbenheimer" rivalry.
When "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" were both released on July 21, many moviegoers went to see the films back-to-back, a phenomenon that brought huge crowds to theaters and became known as "Barbenheimer."
Blunt and Gosling referenced the box office and awards season competition between the two films.
"The way this award season has turned out, it wasn't that much of a rivalry. Just let it go!" Blunt said.
Gosling acknowledged the many awards "Oppenheimer" has won, then added: "I think I kind of figured out why it's called 'Barbenheimer' and not 'Oppenarbie.' You're on the tail end because you rode 'Barbie's' coattails all summer."
John Cena walked onstage nearly naked while introducing the nominees for best costume design.
At the 1974 Oscars, a naked streaker ran behind host David Niven as he introduced Elizabeth Taylor.
This year's host, Jimmy Kimmel, referenced the moment and joked, "Can you imagine if a nude man ran across the stage today? Wouldn't that be crazy?"
John Cena then appeared nearly nude, bantering with Kimmel before naming the nominees.
Robert Downey Jr. won his first long-awaited Oscar for "Oppenheimer."
Downey Jr. cracked jokes throughout his acceptance speech for best supporting actor, thanking "my terrible childhood and the Academy, in that order" and "my veterinarian — I meant wife — Susan Downey over there."
Ryan Gosling stole the show with his performance of "I'm Just Ken."
Wearing a bedazzled pink suit and surrounded by his fellow Kens, Gosling karate-chopped pink wood, crowd-surfed, and belted out the Oscar-nominated song accompanied by Slash on guitar.
"Oppenheimer" star Cillian Murphy won the Academy Award for best actor.
"We made a film about the man who created the atomic bomb, and for better or worse we're living in Oppenheimer's world, so I'd really like to dedicate this to the peacemakers everywhere," Murphy said in his acceptance speech.
Christopher Nolan continued the "Oppenheimer" winning streak with the Academy Award for best director.
"Movies are just a little bit over 100 years old," Nolan said while accepting his award. "We don't know where this incredible journey is going from here. But to know that you think I'm a meaningful part of it means the world to me."
Nolan is known for his intense work ethic as a director, not allowing chairs on set and only taking two scheduled bathroom breaks per day.
Emma Stone had a wardrobe malfunction while accepting the award for best actress.
The zipper of Stone's mint-green strapless Louis Vuitton gown came undone as she walked onstage to accept her second Oscar for best actress. She won for her performance in "Poor Things."
"My dress is broken, I think it happened during 'I'm Just Ken," she joked during her acceptance speech.
"Oppenheimer" won best picture.
"Oppenheimer" won a total of seven Oscars: best supporting actor, best cinematography, best original score, best actor, best editing, best director, and best picture.
