Pamela Anderson made waves when she stepped out with a bare face during Paris Fashion Week. She opened up about her decision in a new interview with Vogue.
"I know I wasn't making strides toward world peace, but I was making a statement," Anderson told Vogue. "In this day and age, do we even know what a face looks like anymore? This is it."
The 56-year-old actor attended four runway shows in Paris last month. Although she was dressed to the nines, Anderson chose to show off her freckles and laugh lines by keeping her skin free from any makeup products.
There was nothing on her face except for some homemade rosehip oil from her garden, per the Vogue interview.
In the interview, Anderson explained that her decision to go makeup-free in the city of love was purely because she "wasn't in the mood to play the game" while getting ready on her first day.
"Once I put the clothing on, I thought, 'I'd rather go for a walk and look at the architecture of Paris rather than sit in the makeup chair for three hours,'" Anderson said.
She admitted that while she felt a little "insecure" once she "remembered digital photography," she was exhilarated by the experience.
"It felt a bit like jumping off a bridge, but I just smiled. And when I got home from the show, that's when I decided I wanted to go makeup-free the entire week," Anderson said.
Anderson previously told Elle in August that she had stopped wearing makeup in her daily life when her longtime makeup artist and close friend Alexis Vogel died from breast cancer in 2019.
Reflecting on her own no-makeup movement, the actor told Vogue that she's done with "playing dress up."
"For years, I was acting like these characters: a Playmate, a rockstar's wife," Anderson said. And while she is grateful for all those experiences, she's glad she's "made it to this point" where she can look back and "laugh at it."
"My dogs love me like this, my garden loves me like this," the actor continued. "This experience proved to me that people resonate with authenticity and with courage."
