Nicki Minaj cut off her own performance of 'Starships' because it's a 'stupid song'

Nicki Minaj interrupted her New Year's Eve show in Miami to criticize her own music.
The chart-topping rapper, who recently released her fifth album "Pink Friday 2," performed at the nightclub E11EVEN on Sunday night. Among new songs like "FTCU" and "Everybody," Minaj's brief setlist was meant to include "Starships," one of her biggest hits.
However, after Minaj began to sing the first verse, she made a gesture to cut off the backing track.
"Hold on. Psych, psych, psych, psych," she told the crowd, according to a video shared on TikTok. "I don't perform that song no more, y'all. I don't like it, what y'all want me to do? Stupid song."
"Starships" was released in 2012 as the lead single from Minaj's second studio album, "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded." It peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Despite its popularity, Minaj has criticized the song before.
"I hate 'Starships,' I mean ew, 'Starships?'" she told Pollstar Live in 2020. I'm like, 'Why did I do that?' I really think that every time I hear it."
During the same interview, Minaj said she regretted recording "Your Love" and "Anaconda."
"I wish I never recorded 'Anaconda.' I like the video but ugh," she said. "My first ever solo song on Billboard was 'Your Love.' To this day I like the video but I hate the song. I could go on and on."
Minaj is set to kick off her "Pink Friday 2" world tour in March.
