Netflix once again has the Emmys nominations crown.

Nominations for the 72nd Emmys were announced on Tuesday and the streaming giant nabbed 160 total nominations this year across all categories. HBO followed with 107 nominations.

Last year, HBO came out on top with 137 nominations compared to Netflix's 118. The former ultimately nabbed 37 wins while Netflix took home 27 Emmys.

This year continues a tug of war between Netflix and HBO that started in 2018, when Netflix surpassed HBO, breaking HBO's 17-year streak for most Emmy nominations. The lead was more narrow then, though. Netflix gained 112 nods to HBO's 108.

Netflix has significantly increased its output of original content over the years and its amount of Emmy nominations this year speaks to the impressive size of its library. As of June 18, Netflix had 674 original TV shows, far more than its streaming rivals, according to streaming search engine Reelgood.

WarnerMedia's new streaming platform, HBO Max, followed with 190 originals, which included HBO programs.

While Netflix had more total nods than HBO, the latter had the most nominated series with "Watchmen," which gained 26 nominations. It was followed by Amazon Prime Video's "Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" with 20 nominations and Netflix's "Ozark" and HBO's "Succession," which tied with 18 nominations each.

New streaming platforms also broke through.

Disney Plus, which launched in November, nabbed 19 total nominations, including 15 for "The Mandalorian." The "Star Wars" series nabbed a surprising best drama nod. Apple TV Plus, which also launched in November — and has been marred by poor critics reviews for some of its shows, and a lack of original content — gained 18 total nominations. And Quibi, the short-form streaming platform that debuted in April, nabbed 10 nods. The service has made headlines for a disappointing start.
