Netflix is bringing the 'Knives Out' sequel to theaters a month before you'll be able to stream it
  • "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" is debuting in 600 US theaters a month before it's available on Netflix.
  • The streaming giant said the film would be its first to debut at the US' three largest cinema chains.

You'll be able to watch Netflix's sequel to crime-comedy "Knives Out" in theaters a whole month before you'll be able to stream it.

Netflix announced on Thursday that "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" would be released at 600 cinemas across the US for a week from November 23 to 29.

The streaming giant said that the film would be its first-ever to debut at the US' three largest movie-theater chains: AMC, Regal, and Cinemark.

AMC said that the film would feature at more than 200 of its US movie theaters, marking the first time it is playing a Netflix film theatrically. AMC has around 600 theaters nationwide.

"Glass Onion" will also play in select other US theaters as well as some in countries including Canada, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand.

AMC's Odeon Cinema Group will play the movie at some of its locations in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, and Spain.

Netflix called the early viewing a "sneak preview."

If you don't want to see it in the theaters, you'll have to wait until December 23, when it will be added to Netflix's streaming platform globally.

"As we have often said, we believe that both theatrical exhibitors and streamers can continue to co-exist successfully," AMC CEO Adam Aron said in a statement. "Theatres will make more money by having more titles to show, and thanks to the larger cultural resonance those movies can gain from a theatrical release, they will wind up playing to a wider audience when they also are viewed on streaming platforms."

"Glass Onion" is written and directed by Rian Johnson, who was also behind the first movie in the franchise. In the new film, "James Bond" actor Daniel Craig returns as sleuth Benoit Blanc, this time in a murder mystery set on a Greek island.

"Knives Out" was released in 2019 and grossed $311 million at the box office internationally on a $40 million budget. A third film in the franchise is set to follow under the $469-million deal with Netflix.
