Michael Bolton says he underwent 'immediate' surgery after being diagnosed with a brain tumor: 'I will be devoting my time and energy to my recovery'
- Michael Bolton has revealed that he recently underwent emergency surgery to remove a brain tumor.
- In a Facebook post, the singer said doctors discovered the tumor "just before the holidays."
Michael Bolton said he is recovering from an operation to remove a brain tumor.
In a New Year's message shared to Facebook on Friday evening, the 70-year-old singer said that he learned of the tumor at the end of 2023 and took instant action.
"I want to start by wishing everyone a very happy and healthy new year! I also want to share that 2023 ended up presenting me with some very unexpected challenges," he wrote. "Just before the holidays, it was discovered that I had a brain tumor, which required immediate surgery."
"Thanks to my incredible medical team, the surgery was a success. I am now recuperating at home and surrounded by the tremendous love and support of my family."
Representatives for Bolton did not respond to Business Insider's request for comment, made outside regular business hours.
Bolton, who recently appeared on season nine of "The Masked Singer," added that he is now "devoting my time and energy to my recovery which means I'll have to take a temporary break from touring."
The "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You" singer was scheduled to tour 14 dates across the US and Canada in 2024 and perform two shows in Luzern, Switzerland, and one in London, per his official website.
While Bolton hasn't confirmed which dates will be canceled, likely, the first six shows — all set to take place in February — will not go ahead.
"It is always the hardest thing for me to ever disappoint my fans or postpone a show, but have no doubt I am working hard to accelerate my recovery and get back to performing soon," Bolton continued.
"I am beyond grateful for all the love and support you have so generously shown me through the years. Know that I'm keeping your positive messages in my heart, and I'll give you more updates as soon as I can," he added.
Bolton isn't the only veteran musician who canceled upcoming tour dates due to health matters; Celine Dion, 55, called off her 2023-2024 world tour after being diagnosed with the rare neurological disorder Stiff Person Syndrome, while Ozzy Osbourne, 75, said he is "not physically capable" of performing anymore amid his declining health.
Meanwhile, Bruce Springsteen postponed 10 shows with the E Street Band last year after the 74-year-old frontman fell ill on two occasions.
