When meeting legendary actor Al Pacino, the last thing most would think to do is stick their tongue directly in his ear.

But that's exactly what Madonna did when she first met "The Godfather" star in the late 1970s, according to the singer's former roommate Whitley Hill.

Speaking to author Mary Gabriel for a newly-released biography about Madonna, "Madonna: A Rebel Life," Hill says she and Madonna were first introduced to Pacino by Hill's father, actor Ed Setrakian, during a dinner in New York City.

Hill says that when Pacino first came over to sit with them, Madonna unwrapped a stick of gum and ate it in a slow, deliberate manner.

"I think the idea here is to call attention to her mouth," Hill says in the book.

After the dinner, Setrakian drove everyone home, including Pacino and Madonna, Hill recalls.

Once home, Hill says her father then called her to tell her what Pacino had told him about Madonna.

"That friend of your daughter's stuck her tongue in my ear," Hill recalls Pacino telling her father, per the biography. "When we were driving home, she leaned over and stuck her tongue in my ear!"

Representatives for Madonna and Pacino did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

In the movie, based on the 1930s comic strip detective of the same name, Pacino plays a criminal known as Alphonse "Big Boy" Caprice, and Madonna plays his girlfriend, Breathless Mahoney.

According to Newsweek, Madonna only $1,440 a week on the movie.

The film's lead actor and Madonna's boyfriend at the time, Warren Beatty, on the other hand, earned $9 million.

Speaking with author Mike Bonifer in a behind-the-scenes book about the movie published in 1990, Madonna said she hated working with Pacino while he was in character as Big Boy.

"I had nothing but contempt for Big Boy," she said. "And he would treat me like a bad little girl. He was always slapping me and spanking me. And in terms of being on the set, whenever Al put his prosthetics on, his suit, he was a gross pig."

"He was always smacking my butt and my face," she added. "I hated him, I loathed him, I was disgusted with him. And so what happened off-camera was that I'd always try to be moving away from him, and he'd always grab me and go, 'Get over here!' which is exactly what happened in the movie."

But out of character, Madonna said of Pacino: "He's not that way in real life — he's very gracious, and well-mannered, and gentlemanly, and sweet."
