Before her death, Lisa Marie Presley said she got matching tattoos with late son Benjamin before he died in 2020: 'We will be connected eternally'
  • In July 2022, Lisa Marie Presley shared a tribute marking two years of her son Benjamin's death.
  • Presley posted a picture of her and Benjamin's matching tattoos that represent their "eternal bond."

Lisa Marie Presley, who died Thursday aged 54, was vocal about her grief over the death of her son Benjamin Keough in her final months. Just months before she died, she even shared an Instagram tribute to Benjamin in July 2022 to mark the second anniversary of his death.

Benjamin, Presley's son with musician Danny Keough, died by suicide at the age of 27 in 2020.

On July 12, 2022, Presley shared an image on Instagram of the matching tattoos she and Benjamin once got and captioned the post with a touching message about her relationship with her late son.

"Several years ago, on Mother's Day, my son and I got these matching tattoos on our feet," Presley wrote. "It's a Celtic eternity knot. Symbolizing that we will be connected eternally. We carefully picked it to represent our eternal love and our eternal bond."

Presley also mentioned her son on Twitter last year as she heaped praise on Baz Lurhmann's biopic about her father, Elvis Presley, "Elvis," which was released in theaters in June 2022.

Presley tweeted that lead actor Austin Butler deserved an Oscar for his performance as Elvis and described the film as "nothing short of spectacular." She said she was moved by having her three children, Riley, Harper, and Finley, watch the movie with her but added that she missed Benjamin.

She said: "It breaks my heart that my son isn't here to see it. He would have absolutely loved it as well."

In another tweet, she said of Benjamin: "Hello, I haven't posted in quite some time because there really isn't much to say, as I'm and will forever be mourning the loss of my son. Navigating through this hideous grief that absolutely destroyed & shattered my heart and my soul into almost nothing has swallowed me whole."

According to TMZ, Presley experienced cardiac arrest at her home in Calabasas, California, on Thursday. Her mother, Priscilla Presley, later announced that she had died.

"It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us," Priscilla Presley said in a statement on Thursday. "She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known."

Presley's representative also confirmed her death in a statement to Insider.

"Priscilla Presley and the Presley family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Lisa Marie," the statement from Presley's representative said. "They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time."
