King Charles III will undergo a prostate procedure next week, keeping him from public duties, Buckingham Palace announced.
Charles sought treatment for an enlarged prostate "in common with thousands of men each year," the palace said in a statement on Wednesday.
Buckingham Palace said Charles' condition is benign, and he'll have a "corrective procedure" next week. It's unclear if Charles will have surgery or undergo a different type of medical procedure.
"We are not providing further details about His Majesty's condition, for privacy reasons," a palace spokesperson told Business Insider in response to a request for further comment on the matter.
"Details on HM's engagements will be confirmed in due course," they added.
According to The Independent, it is understood that the king was eager to share the announcement to encourage men experiencing similar symptoms to seek medical guidance.

News of the king's hospitalization came less than two hours after Kensington Palace announced that Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, has also been hospitalized for a planned abdominal surgery.
"The surgery was successful, and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery," the palace said in a statement.
The palace said that Middleton's procedure will also keep her from appearing in public until Easter.
It's not uncommon for the palace to release important updates regarding the health of the royal family. For example, the palace previously announced that Charles had tested positive for COVID-19 in March 2020 and again in February 2022.
Shortly before Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, 2022, the palace released a statement saying that Her Majesty's doctors were "concerned" for her health. She was 96.
