Amid a tumultuous time for the royal family, one of the monarchy's biggest events of the year is quickly approaching.

Trooping the Colour, the monarch's official birthday celebration, is set to take place on June 15.

The annual event typically brings all senior members of the royal family together as they gather on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to greet the public.

Buckingham Palace confirmed to the BBC that King Charles — who is still receiving regular cancer treatment — will inspect troops during the ceremony. However, he will be in a carriage instead of on horseback as he was for the 2023 event.

Kensington Palace has yet to reveal whether Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, will attend Trooping the Colour as she continues to undergo treatment for cancer.

However, she will not inspect the troops at the Colonel's Review on June 8, a dress rehearsal for the actual Trooping the Colour. General James Bucknall will inspect the troops in Kate's stead.

Kate was appointed Colonel of the Irish Guards in 2022, and the review has been her responsibility ever since she inherited the role from Prince William. The British Army briefly indicated Kate would attend the event on tickets it released in March, but it altered the invitations to remove mentions of the princess after Kensington Palace then said her attendance had not been confirmed.

Kate has yet to return to public duty after announcing she was undergoing "preventive chemotherapy" for cancer in March. Kensington Palace has not issued an update on her health since her announcement, though William said she was "doing well" on May 10, Sky News reported.

Kate has not attended a royal engagement in 2024, as her last official public appearance was at Sandringham on Christmas.
