Joy Behar says it's smart for women to date younger men.

On Thursday's episode of "The View," the 81-year-old said it's a good idea for women to date younger men because they'll have similar lifespans.

"There is this notion in the public that women should stay with their own age bracket," Behar said to her co-hosts. "But when you think about it, women basically live six years longer than men. So if you go with a guy who's younger than you, you probably die at the same time."

According to the latest CDC data from 2021, life expectancy among men in the US was 73.5 years, compared to 79.3 years among women.

That aside, Behar says that a woman would be more sexually compatible with a younger man because "men reach their sexual peak much younger than women do."

She also talked about her experience of being married to her husband Steve Janowitz, who is seven years younger than her.

"He drives at night, he does the heavy lifting, he's sharp as a tack. If I get old, depressed, and decrepit — which I am already almost — he'll wheel me around instead of I'm wheeling him around," Behar said.

"I think it's a really good plan to go with a guy younger," she added. "It's scientifically smart to do it."

Behar's comments came about during a discussion on "The View" about Anne Hathaway being labeled a "cougar" for playing a 40-year-old single mom who falls in love with a 24-year-old musician in the upcoming movie "The Idea of You." Hathaway and her co-star Nicholas Galitzine have a 12-year age gap in real life.

Elsewhere in the episode, Behar's co-host Whoopi Goldberg also shared that she once dated a man who was 40 years older than her.

Other celebrities who are in an age-gap relationship include Jay-Z and Beyoncé, who have a 12-year-age gap, George and Amal Clooney, who have a 17-year age gap, and Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, who have an 11-year age gap.

But age-gap relationships aren't just seen among celebrities — regular people can be in them too.
