Rest assured, there's no bad blood between Ayo Edebiri and Jennifer Lopez these days — at least, according to Lopez.
The two shared a billing on the February 3 episode of "Saturday Night Live," where Edebiri, hot off an Emmy win for "The Bear," hosted and Lopez was the musical guest. Prior to the show, TMZ resurfaced a 2020 clip from the "Scam Goddess" podcast in which Edebiri called Lopez's career "one long scam" and repeated claims that Lopez uses ghost singers in her music.
In a profile interview for her new album "This Is Me….Now" and its tie-in film and documentary, Lopez told Variety that everything was good between the two.
"She was mortified and very sweet. She came to my dressing room and apologized with tears in her eyes, saying how terrible it was that she had said those things," Lopez said of Edebiri.
"She felt really badly and loved my performance because we had just done my soundcheck and she actually got to hear me perform," she continued. "She was just like, 'I'm so fucking sorry, it was so awful of me.'"
As Business Insider reported after the clip went viral, people rallied around Edebiri when the comments resurfaced. And Edebiri herself has referenced them on "SNL" and social media: In one skit, she said it was wrong to "run your mouth on a podcast and you don't consider the impact because you're 24 and stupid."
And when Tina Fey told Bowen Yang on his "Las Culturistas" podcast that he had to be more careful about expressing his opinions publicly, Edebiri replied to a clip on Yang's Instagram with the comment "LEARN FROM ME."
Lopez said that after hearing accusations about her singing ability in the past, Edebiri's comments ultimately didn't phase her.
"It's funny," Lopez said. "I've heard similar things said about me throughout my career, so it really didn't affect me."
