A new "Mean Girls" movie based on the 2004 film and the Broadway musical hits theaters on January 12.
The latest version stars Reneé Rapp as Regina George and Angourie Rice as Cady Heron.

A new iteration of "Mean Girls" is now playing in theaters, 20 years after the original movie was released and became a pop-culture phenomenon.

Touted as "not your mother's 'Mean Girls,'" the updated version is described as a combination of the 2004 teen movie and the Broadway musical that debuted in 2018.

Lindsay Lohan played "Mean Girls" protagonist Cady Heron in the 2004 movie. Australian actor Angourie Rice took over in the new iteration.

Aaron Samuels, previously played by Jonathan Bennett, is portrayed by "The Summer I Turned Pretty" star Christopher Briney.

In the original movie, Lacey Chabert portrayed Gretchen Wieners, one of the Plastics. Bebe Wood plays the character in the remake.

Amanda Seyfriend rounded out the Plastics as Karen Smith. In the remake, she's renamed Karen Shetty and played by Avantika Vandanapu.

Janis Ian, played by Lizzy Caplan in 2004, is reimagined as Janis 'Imi'ike and played by "Moana" star Auli'i Cravalho.

Janis' best friend Damian, previously played by Daniel Franzese, is portrayed by Tony nominee Jaquel Spivey in the 2024 remake.

Actor and comedian Ana Gasteyer starred as Cady's mom in the original film. "The Office" alum Jenna Fischer plays Ms. Heron in the new movie.
