Things are starting to look up for Henry Cavill, as he's found his next project after leaving Netflix's "The Witcher" in October, and recently being dropped as Superman by Warner Bros.

It's been a tumultuous few months for the star, since it originally looked like he was back as the Man of Steel thanks to the "Black Adam" post-credits scene, but James Gunn confirmed that the studio's new direction will not involve Cavill reprising the role.

The star's next project is a "Warhammer 40,000" series for Amazon. Deadline reported that the studio has acquired the rights for the franchise, with Cavill on board to star and produce in the science-fiction series, and a feature film is also possible.

Cavill is an avid "Warhammer 40,000" player and he explained in a statement that it's an honor to get the chance to help bring it to the screen.

He said: "I have loved 'Warhammer' since I was a boy, making this moment truly special for me. The opportunity to shepherd this cinematic universe from its inception is quite the honor and the responsibility."

Cavill added: "I couldn't be more grateful for all the hard work put in by Vertigo, Amazon Studios and Games Workshop to make this happen. One step closer to making a nigh on lifelong dream come true."

The British actor has always been a self-confessed "Warhammer 40,000" geek, as he previously told "The Graham Norton Show" about his hobby: "It is fun, it sounds ridiculous, but it is fun."

Amazon acquiring the rights for "Warhammer 40,000" has clearly been in the pipeline for a while, and this news comes as a welcome salve for Cavill after his recent departure from Superman.

Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, said: "'Warhammer 40,000' has captured the imagination of fans of all ages, from all walks of life, and all over the world. We are excited to work with Henry, Vertigo Entertainment, and Games Workshop across our Amazon entertainment businesses on this brilliant, immersive franchise for our global customers to experience for years to come."

"Warhammer 40,000" is set in a far-flung future where humanity goes to war against a number of different alien empires, androids, and supernatural entities.
