Just days after it was announced, Woody Allen's memoir has now been shelved by its publisher.
The Hachette Book Group said Friday that they will no longer publish the director's memoir, "A Propos of Nothing," which was due to be released April 7.
"Hachette Book Group has decided that it will not publish Woody Allen's memoir 'A Propos of Nothing,' originally scheduled for sale in April 2020, and will return all rights to the author," the publishing company said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
Hachette imprint Grand Central Publishing announced the memoir on Monday and swiftly faced condemnation for taking it on. Many at the company were upset about the book as well, leading dozens of employees to stage a walkout on Thursday.
Allen has faced numerous professional setbacks in the #MeToo era, as Dylan Farrow has renewed her accusations that Allen sexually molested her when she was a child. In 2019, Allen settled a lawsuit with Amazon, which pulled out of a multi-project deal with him in the wake of the renewed allegations.
Dimitrios Kambouris/GettyHachette's decision to publish the book caused Allen's son, journalist Ronan Farrow, to announce on Twitter that he would be cutting his ties to the publisher. The company published his book on Harvey Weinstein and the #MeToo movement, "Catch and Kill."
Farrow has been an ardent supporter of his sister Dylan. Allen has denied the allegation and pointed out repeatedly that he was investigated and never charged with a crime.
Grand Central, the Hachette imprint that planned to publish "A Propos of Nothing," described it as "a comprehensive account of his life, both personal and professional, and describes his work in films, theatre, television, nightclubs and print."
