Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins has died at age 50

Taylor Hawkins, the drummer behind the rock band Foo Fighters, has died at age 50, according to a statement posted to social media by the band.

"The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins," read the message. "His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever."

Foo Fighters are currently on tour in South America and were preparing to perform in Bogota, Colombia, a rep for the band told Rolling Stone.

No cause of death was made immediately available.

On social media, fans and fellow musicians expressed their condolensces for the musician and spoke of his talent on the drums.

"@TaylorHawkins was truly a great person and an amazing musician. My heart, my love and my condolences go out to his wife, his children, his family, his band and his fans. See you on the other side." Ozzy Osbourne tweeted.

Similar statements were released from Ringo Starr, Nickleback and Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello, who praised Hawkins' "unstoppable rock power."

On Instagram, Miley Cyrus dedicated her March 26 show to Hawkins, sharing a memory of dancing to the Pretenders song "Brass in Pocket" while he played drums.
