It's almost time for the 2024 Met Gala.
In one week, Anna Wintour and The Metropolitan Museum of Art will host the annual fashion event, which serves as both a red-carpet spectacle and a fundraiser for the museum's Costume Institute.
But Wintour won't do it alone. Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, and Chris Hemsworth will co-chair this year's event, which has been titled "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion."
And as the Metropolitan Museum previously announced in a press release, the matching dress code will be "The Garden of Time."
TikTok CEO Shou Chew and Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson will be the gala's honorary chairs.
The 2024 Met Gala theme: 'Sleeping Beauties' of fashion
Vogue revealed in November 2023 that the upcoming Met Gala theme will showcase both new "masterpieces of fashion" and ones that are so old and delicate they can never be worn again.
So, rather than simply displaying them on mannequins, many of the historical fashion pieces will be shown in the Costume Institute via new technology that highlights "the multi-sensory facets of a garment," the publication reported.
What will celebrities wear?
As Vogue has reported, "The Garden of Time" dress code is inspired by a 1962 short story written by J.G. Ballard.
Present in that work of the same name, according to Vogue, are references to a "utopia of leisure, art, and beauty," flowers made of crystal, and encroaching dystopia.
Vogue reported that celebrities will likely wear a mix of textured ensembles with floral details and historical pieces.
Celebrity stylists agreed when previously speaking with Business Insider. They said the upcoming theme could likely translate to celebrities wearing vintage designer pieces, sustainable outfits, and garments made with new technology.
But in true Met Gala fashion, we'll have to wait until the first Monday of May to find out for sure.
How to watch the 2024 Met Gala
On Monday, Vogue announced that Gwendoline Christie, La La Anthony, and Ashley Graham will cohost a livestream of the event's red carpet starting at 6 p.m. on May 6.
The stream will be broadcast on YouTube, TikTok, Vogue's social-media pages, and the Vogue website.
Influencer Emma Chamberlain will also be on the red carpet doing interviews for the publication.
