Evan Rachel Wood accuses ex-fiancé Marilyn Manson of 'grooming' and abusing her
  • Evan Rachel Wood on Monday accused her ex-fiancé Marilyn Manson of abuse.
  • Manson's record label announced Monday that they've "decided not to work" with him due to the allegations.
  • The musician responded in a statement Monday saying: "These recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality."

Evan Rachel Wood on Monday accused her ex-fiancé Marilyn Manson of "grooming" her as a teenager and "horrifically" abusing her for years.

The actress was 19 when she began dating Manson, then 38, in 2007. They were engaged in 2010.

Wood, now 33, has spoken about being a survivor of domestic abuse but until Monday had not identified who abused her.

"The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson," she said in a statement posted on Instagram. "He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission."

She added: "I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives."

Wood also reshared several statements on her Instagram Story from other women detailing their experiences with the singer, now 52.

Manson released a statement on Monday evening denying the allegations

On Monday, Manson posted a short statement to Instagram where he denied the allegations made against him, saying all his intimate relationships have "always been entirely consensual."

The full statement read: "Obviously, my life and my art have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality. My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners. Regardless of how - and why - others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth."

Wood has previously spoken about surviving domestic abuse

This isn't the first time Wood has spoken out about being abused.

The "Across the Universe" actress told Rolling Stone in 2016 that she had experienced "physical, psychological, sexual" abuse. She followed up to say she had been raped "by a significant other while we were together" and "on a separate occasion, by the owner of a bar."

Wood didn't name either person but suggested that the abuse might have contributed to a suicide attempt.

The following year, Wood shared a YouTube video explaining why she hadn't publicly identified the people, who she said were "very powerful, very rich, very entitled, and very narcissistic white men."

"I have not named my abusers," she said, "not because I don't plan on saying these names eventually, but because to start that process is emotionally draining and financially draining, really an everything draining thing to do and to go through. And I want to do it when I'm ready."

In 2018, Wood testified about sexual assault in front of a House Judiciary subcommittee during a hearing about the Sexual Assault Survivors' Bill of Rights Act. The actress detailed her experiences with rape, domestic violence, and the trauma that followed.

According to Nylon, Wood testified again a year later before the California Senate Public Safety Committee in a hearing about the Phoenix Act, which aimed to create "exceptions to the statute of limitations for domestic violence crimes."

Manson's record label cut ties with the singer after these latest allegations surfaced

As a result of Wood's allegations, Loma Vista Recordings, which released Manson's three most recent albums, cut ties with the singer, according to a statement shared Monday on social media.

The statement read, "In light of today's disturbing allegations by Evan Rachel Wood and other women naming Marilyn Manson as their abuser, Loma Vista will cease to further promote his current album, effective immediately."

"Due to these concerning developments," it continued, "we have also decided not to work with Marilyn Manson on any future projects."

Manson has also been dropped from Starz's 'American Gods' and the upcoming Shudder horror flick 'Creepshow'

Shortly after his record label dropped him, Starz announced that Manson's performances would be scrubbed from upcoming episodes of the popular show "American Gods." A Starz spokesperson told Deadline: "Due to the allegations made against Marilyn Manson, we have decided to remove his performance from the remaining episode he is in, scheduled to air later this season. Starz stands unequivocally with all victims and survivors of abuse."

This was quickly followed up by AMC - the parent company of horror streamer Shudder - who confirmed to Vanity Fair that Manson's appearances on their upcoming anthology show "Creepshow" would not air.
