Dolly Parton says Sylvester Stallone helped her get back into shape at a time when she lacked confidence.
Parton, 77, recalled getting advice from Sylvester, also 77, during an interview with Saga Exceptional published on Saturday. The pair had starring roles in the June 1984 film "Rhinestone" and were honored with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame that same month.
Parton told the outlet that there was a time during her career "when I had lost a lot of confidence because I had also gained weight and any time you don't look good, you don't feel as good about yourself."
"So, I finally said, 'Get off your fat ass and do something about it!'" Parton continued.
In the interview, Parton said Stallone encouraged her to ditch unhealthy foods.
"And he'd tell me, 'You've got to stop eating white bread and processed stuff,' and I'd say, 'But I'm a country girl!'" Parton told the outlet. "I still eat those things, just not as often as I used to."
Parton, who swears fried chicken is the key to a successful marriage, added that she exercises "just enough to get by" and happens to own "some high-heeled sneakers."
Parton has been candid about diet and thoughts on body positivity throughout her illustrious career. In November 2018, she told People she tries to keep a "low-carb diet" on the weekdays but enjoys her favorite Southern meals on the weekends.
"I'll make gravy and biscuits and fried sausage or fried spam. My husband loves my cooking, so I cook for him," Parton said, referring to Carl Dean.
In the same People interview, Parton said she's struggled with her body image in the past and doesn't want young girls to face the same pressures.
"I really worry a lot about young girls today because they think they have to look like the models or the people on television. We need to be accepting of ourselves in how we are," Parton said.
