Here it is, folks: Dolly Parton has finally explained why she prefers to communicate via fax

"Actually, I don't want to get into that world. I'm surrounded by enough people," Parton said on "The View," referring to modern communication methods like cell phones and social media. The episode aired on Wednesday.

If not for the trusty fax machine, Parton, 77, says she'd be overwhelmed by all the messages she gets.

"So I never did get into getting involved in all that because it'll take up too much of my time if I talked to everybody who is trying to get in touch with me," Parton said. "So I just say, 'Hey, fax me! Fax me or call me and I'll call you back.'"

It should come as no surprise that Parton is protective of her time.

She is, after all, a ten-time Grammy Award-winner who has released 65 studio albums and who notched a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011. Parton is set to release yet another album, titled "Rockstar," on November 17.

The country star said she doesn't make exceptions for her friends.

"Kenny Rogers used to aggravate me about it," Parton added. "I said, 'Look, I'll send you a message by carrier pigeon if I need to get in touch with you. You always seem to know how to reach me when you want something.'"

Parton's love of faxing has been brought up multiple times by other celebrities who are close to her, including her goddaughter Miley Cyrus, and more recently, her friend Reba McEntire.

During an appearance on "Late Night With Seth Meyers" in May 2022, Cyrus explained the long process that her godmother takes to communicate with her.

"We do use the phone, but she does a fax, and then someone scans the fax, and then they put it into a text message, and then that gets sent to me," Cyrus told Meyers.

Last week, during an appearance on "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen," McEntire said she can only reach Parton via fax because Parton doesn't text or use email.

"I don't have her telephone number, and I asked Kenny Rogers one time. I said, 'Do you have Dolly's number?'" McEntire said on the show. "He said, 'No.'"
