Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart deny sexual assault allegations against 'Riverdale' stars
  • After accusations of sexual assault were leveled against several "Riverdale" cast members on Sunday, Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart took to Twitter to deny the allegations.
  • "I take these accusations very seriously, and will be working with the right teams to get to the root of it," Sprouse, who was accused of forcing himself on a woman at a college party, said.
  • And Reinhart, who was accused of inappropriately touching a fan while posing for a photo with them, shared a similar statement.
  • "It was proven that this account was created specifically to create false stories about me and my cast," she said. "I can't think of something more twisted than lying about sexual assault."
  • The allegations against Sprouse, Reinhart, and their costars came after other celebrities were accused of sexual misconduct over the weekend.

Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart denied allegations of sexual assault that were leveled at them and several of their "Riverdale" costars on Sunday.

Sprouse reactivated his Twitter to post the statement, which denounced "false accusations" of sexual assault.

"Earlier today myself and three other cast mates were falsely accused of sexual offense by anonymous accounts on twitter. I take these accusations very seriously, and will be working with the right teams to get to the root of it," Sprouse tweeted.

He even encouraged fans to look into the allegations, which he called "factually untrue."

According to Sprouse, the accusations appeared to be an attempt to "cancel" the actor and some of his "Riverdale" castmates, including Lili Reinhart and Vanessa Morgan.

Reinhart also tweeted out a statement addressing the Twitter allegations, writing, "I can't think of something more twisted than lying about sexual assault."

Sprouse and Reinhart's responses came after the allegations gained traction on social media over the weekend.

Screenshots from various Twitter users appeared to show several anonymous accounts sharing accusations of sexual abuse against Sprouse, Reinhart, Morgan, and their fellow "Riverdale" costar KJ Apa.

The accusations leveled against the stars ranged from rape to groping and sexual harassment, but users also shared screenshots of a subsequent tweet by one of the accusers, appearing to admit that the allegations were fabricated.

Plenty of people on Twitter sought to clear up the allegations against the "Riverdale" stars by saying that all of the accusers' tweets originated from the same IP address.

Others raised questions about the timing and focus of the accusations, and the fact that the handles all followed a similar format — a woman's name followed by a series of numbers.

And some used the screenshot of one of the accusers apparently admitting she made the whole thing up as further proof that the "Riverdale" cast are innocent.

Sprouse and Reinhart's "Riverdale" costar Madelaine Petsch even took to Twitter to defend her castmates.

Petsch called the allegations "disgusting," and wrote, "As someone who has been sexually assaulted, I am deeply deeply disturbed that anyone thinks that it is okay to falsely accuse someone of sexual assault."

The allegations against the "Riverdale" cast members came after Ansel Elgort and Justin Bieber were also accused of sexual assault over the weekend.

Both Elgort and Bieber subsequently denied the allegations.
