Brooke Shields said she had a seizure in September and woke up to Bradley Cooper holding her hand in an ambulance.

In a recent interview with Glamour, Shields opened up about the health scare.

The incident took place before the opening of her show "Previously Owned by Brooke Shields" at Café Carlyle, a New York City jazz restaurant, Shield told Glamour.

"I was preparing for the show, and I was drinking so much water, and I didn't know I was low in sodium," Shield said. After leaving her house and feeling disorientated, Shield found herself in the restaurant L'Artusi, in the West Village, she recalled.

"Everything starts to go black. Then my hands drop to my side and I go headfirst into the wall," Shields said. "I start having a grand mal seizure." Also referred to as tonic-clonic seizures, episodes usually cause a loss of consciousness and violent muscle contraction.

The 58-year-old explained that she was "frothing at the mouth, totally blue," and was even "trying to swallow" her tongue.

"The next thing I remember, I'm being loaded into an ambulance. I have oxygen on," Shields said. "And Bradley fucking Cooper is sitting next to me holding my hand."

Despite her surprise, Shields said she wasn't able to "get any words out" due to her condition.

"But I thought to myself, This is what death must be like. You wake up and Bradley Cooper's going, 'I'm going to go to the hospital with you, Brooke,' and he's holding my hand," Shields continued. "And I'm looking at my hand, I'm looking at Bradley Cooper's hand in my hand, and I'm like, 'This is odd and surreal.'"

As it turned out, the "Maestro" actor ended up with her as a result of a complicated game of "phone tag," Shields explained.

The sommelier at the restaurant where she collapsed tried to call her husband Chris Henchy, but reached an assistant instead. That assistant called another assistant, who then called Cooper — who was nearby — for help, she said in the interview.

"His assistant called Bradley and said, 'Brooke's on the ground. Chris isn't around. Go get her.' And he came, and somebody called the ambulance. And then it was like, I walked in with Jesus," Shields added.

Shields said that doctors eventually told her that the seizure was caused by low sodium.

"I had had too much water. I flooded my system, and I drowned myself. And if you don't have enough sodium in your blood or urine or your body, you can have a seizure," she added.

Representatives for Cooper did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent by Insider outside of regular business hours.
