Billie Eilish opened up about same-sex attraction in a new interview.
The 21-year-old singer, who's on the cover of Variety's "Power of Women" issue, told the magazine that she has struggled to connect with other girls and women throughout her life.
However, that began to change earlier this year when she recorded an original song for the "Barbie" movie, directed by Greta Gerwig.
"I've never really felt like I could relate to girls very well," Eilish said. "I love them so much. I love them as people. I'm attracted to them as people. I'm attracted to them for real."
"I have deep connections with women in my life, the friends in my life, the family in my life," she continued. "I'm physically attracted to them. But I'm also so intimidated by them and their beauty and their presence."
Although Eilish did not use a specific term to label her sexuality, the interviewer described the quote as a "revelation." (A representative for Eilish didn't immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.)
Later in the interview, Eilish did confirm that she uses she/her pronouns, despite her challenging relationship with femininity.
"I've never felt like a woman, to be honest with you. I've never felt desirable. I've never felt feminine. I have to convince myself that I'm, like, a pretty girl," she said. "I identify as 'she/her' and things like that, but I've never really felt like a girl."
She added: "Maybe my not really caring about being sexualized is because I've never felt desired or desirable."
Back in May, Eilish split from her boyfriend of seven months, indie musician Jesse Rutherford. She has also been linked to actor Matthew Tyler Vorce and rapper Brandon Quention Adams during her time in the spotlight.
More recently, Eilish named "Stranger Things" actor Maya Hawke as her "celeb crush" during a Q&A session on Instagram.
Shortly after, a fan asked, "Fruity?" — a term that's commonly used as a euphemism for queer. Eilish seemed to reply affirmatively, attaching a stock photo of fruit.
It also wasn't the first time Eilish has named a woman as her celebrity crush. In August, Eilish said she's "always had a fat crush on Ginger," aka Geri Halliwell-Horner from the Spice Girls. Back in 2021, she said she had "such a crush" on "Killing Eve" star Jodie Comer.
