The stars may finally be aligning for "Princess Diaries 3" to the thrill and delight of millennials everywhere.
Disney fans have been holding their breath for years for the third installment of "The Princess Diaries," the 2001 movie starring Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews. The beloved movie followed teenage Mia Thermopolis, played by Hathaway, as she discovered she was a royal heir in line for the throne of Genovia.
In "The Princess Diaries 2: A Royal Engagement," Princess Mia met her match in the handsome Lord Nicholas Devereaux, played by Chris Pine. Since the movie debuted 20 years ago, fans have hoped for a glimpse into the couple's presumed happily ever after.
While it isn't confirmed that the much-adored Princess of Genovia will return to the big screen, Hathaway hinted about it in interviews for her new film "The Idea of You," which will be released in theaters on May 2.
"We're in a good place," Hathaway told Variety about the prospective third film. "That's all I can say. There's nothing to announce yet. But we're in a good place."
Asked about "Princess Diaries 3" by The New York Times, she affirmed that things were moving along but again didn't share any details.
"I don't think it would be nice," Hathaway teased when asked if she could share more.
Hathaway and Pine shared electric chemistry in the second movie, and even decades alter, fans haven't forgotten about it.
In 2019, one fan tweeted that they were "expecting a princess diaries 3 of them ruling genovia while raising their child."
In 2023, one fan tweeted: "okay what is the point of anne hathaway and chris pine aging like a fine wine if we don't get the princess diaries 3?"
Andrews, now in her late 80s, has said she may not be able to realistically reprise her role as the Queen of Genovia.
