An Astroworld concert victim died saving his fiancée from the crowd surge, his family says

A North Texas man died while trying to save his fianceé at Travis Scott's Astroworld music festival on Friday, local ABC News affiliate WFAA reported.

Danish Baig, a 27-year-old at the concert, died in the mayhem at Travis Scott's Astroworld Festival, his family said.

In total, eight people died and hundreds were injured in the crowd surge at the music festival. As Insider previously reported, around 50,000 people attended the sold-out festive on Friday night. Just after 9:30 p.m., the crowd rushed toward the stage during Scott's performance, leading to what police described as a mass-casualty event.

Among the victims include Basil, 14-year-old high school student John Hilgert, 21-year-old Franco Patino, 21-year-old Axel Acosta, and 23-year-old Rudy Peña.

Astroworld attendees told Insider their pleas for the festival to end amid the chaos were ignored as Scott continued to perform while first responders attempted to respond to the injured.

"We lost our brother. We're grieving for all of the families that lost their loved ones in his horrendous event," Danish's brother, Basil Baig, said Sunday at the funeral.

"He died saving his fiancée. He died trying to save his love of his life," Basil said

Basil's cause of death has not yet been released, though his brother told WFAA he believed he died after he was trampled.

"My brother was laying on the ground," Basil told the outlet. "They were chanting to stop the event. Nobody stopped the event."

"We need to stay united and bring awareness to this because this is not how you handle things," he added. "You don't go to a concert to die."

Danish's fianceé was injured in the crowd and was taken to the hospital for treatment, according to the report.

The Houston Police Department is investigating the incident.
