All eight "Harry Potter" movies are available to stream on WarnerMedia's Netflix competitor, HBO Max, which launched on Wednesday.
The digital rights to the movies were previously owned by rival NBCUniversal until 2025, but an HBO representative told Business Insider that they will stream exclusively on HBO Max. They can still air on NBCU's linear TV networks, though, meaning they wouldn't stream on the company's own upcoming streaming service, Peacock, but they can still air on NBCU-owned networks like USA.
The HBO representative did not disclose deal terms.
HBO Max's content chief, Kevin Reilly, told Business Insider in a recent interview that nabbing the "Harry Potter" movies was "high on the priority" list but implied a deal hadn't been reached yet, saying "there is active engagement around that discussion."
"In terms of the marketplace, there's a lot of opportunities for horsetrading," Reilly added. "The marketplace is shifting, with the impact of COVID and different companies launching different services, and it creates a lot of opportunities for horsetrading. We're seeing that across the board."
The "Harry Potter" spin-off movie, "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald," is also available on Max.
