A tearful Kim Kardashian has described the challenges of co-parenting with Ye and shielding her four children from the media in a wide-ranging interview published Monday.

The reality TV star told Angie Martinez's "IRL" podcast that she protects Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, in the "eyes of my kids, for my kids."

Kardashian said: "One day my kids will thank me for not sitting here and bashing their dad when I could. They'll thank me and I'll privately answer anything that they want to know. But it's not my place any more to jump in."

Kardashian and Ye's divorce was finalized in November after months of feuding.

Kardashian told Martinez she tries to shield her children from the media by limiting their access to television and social media and speaking to their teachers.

"If they don't know the things that are being said or what's happening in the world, why would I ever bring that energy to them?" she said, adding that it was "heavy" and "grown-up" and "they're not ready to deal with" it.

Kardashian said she had "the best dad, and I had the best memories and the greatest experience and that's all I want for my kids." Her father Robert died of esophageal cancer in 2003.

In the interview with Martinez, Kardashian didn't directly address her former husband's antisemitic comments or other recent controversies.

She said in February that divorce was "difficult enough on our children and Kanye's obsession with trying to control and manipulate our situation so negatively and publicly is only causing further pain for all."

In a September interview with ABC News, Ye said: "This is the mother of my children, and I apologize for any stress that I have caused, even in my frustration because God calls me to be stronger."

Kardashian filed for divorce from West in February 2021 after seven years of marriage. The rapper is set to pay $200,000 per month in child support.
