A bride knew her sheer, jewel-encrusted wedding dress was the one immediately after seeing a photo of it online

The $70 billion wedding industry involves so much: venues, entertainment, and planners who make couples' dream days come together.
But the dress is arguably the most iconic aspect of a wedding day, with the Knot's global wedding report finding that the gown is often the first vendor US couples select for their big days.
The symbolic nature of the bridal gown has come to encapsulate the experience of finding a wedding dress, too. Brides often describe a rightness when they put on their perfect wedding dress, saying they can easily picture themselves walking down the aisle in the gown.
Like many others, Australian bride Alyssa Farah felt the same when she first saw her wedding dress.
But instead of seeing it in a store, she saw it in an Instagram photo.
Alyssa Farah almost skipped the party where she met her future husband.
Alyssa, 27, and Jacob Farah, 28, met at a party in 2021.
"My sister brought me along, and I nearly didn't go because I didn't really know anyone there," Alyssa told Business Insider. "But my sister forced me to go, and I am forever grateful that she did."
Sparks flew between Alyssa and Jacob as soon as they met.
"We were glued to each other's sides the whole day," she told BI — and they still are today. Jacob proposed to Alyssa in December 2022, just a year after they met.
Today, the couple lives in Sydney, Australia, together, where Alyssa is an executive assistant at a real-estate company and Jacob is a crane operator.
The Farahs wanted their wedding to have a sexy, chic aesthetic.
Alyssa and Jacob said their vows at the Doltone House at Sydney Town Hall and had their reception at Doltone's Jones Bay Wharf location.
"It was more of a dark, moody, sexy vibe," Alyssa said of her vision for her wedding decor.
Instead of decorating their venue with flowers as many couples do, their wedding reception was filled with candles from My Event Candles, which created a romantic vibe.
Alyssa wanted to find a dress that fit that same aesthetic.
Alyssa was drawn to the designer Berta before she got engaged.
"Ever since high school, I had followed Berta," Alyssa said. "I kind of always knew I wanted to be a Berta bride."
After she got engaged, she was scrolling on Instagram when she stumbled upon a photo of the 23-10 from Berta's Caesarea collection.
"I saw it, and I was like, 'Oh my gosh,'" Alyssa said of her reaction to the gown. "Funnily enough, that same day, my mom sent me that dress."
Alyssa made an appointment to try on the mermaid-style dress at Kayrouz Bridal immediately.
She knew the dress was perfect for her wedding as soon as she tried it on.
"I tried on other dresses just to play dress up and see," Alyssa said, as she knew she might like other gowns despite being drawn to the 23-10.
"Maybe I wouldn't want it, but I saved that one for last," she told BI. "I brought my mom and my two sisters with me, and as soon as I put it on, they were like, 'Duh, that's your dress.'"
It was the one.
The dress featured no lace but a plethora of beading.
The mermaid gown's base was made of sheer fabric, adorned from head to toe with pearls and crystals.
The gems, some arranged in stars and others in strips that appeared to drip down the dress, mimicked the curves of Alyssa's body.
They crisscrossed the strapless, corset bodice, which had exposed boning, to cinch her waist.
The dress also had detached sleeves.
Like the rest of the dress, the sleeves were covered in gems.
They flared slightly at the cuff and cinched with elastic to ensure they stayed up on the bicep.
Alyssa told BI she slid them off after her first dance so she could move more freely throughout her reception.
The dress also featured a bow on the back.
The exposed corset was tied with a ribbon made of tulle at the bottom of Alyssa's back.
The ribbon flowed into the skirt, which featured tulle paneling that flowed into a train for a cohesive look.
Alyssa kept her accessories simple and chic.
Alyssa wore a cathedral-length veil from Kayrouz Bridal with her dress.
"My veil was longer than the train, which I loved," Alyssa said, adding that it was adorned with tiny diamantés to give it an extra touch of glamour.
Aside from the veil, Alyssa kept her accessories simple for her wedding day.
"I didn't have any jewelry," she added, aside from a pair of diamanté earrings. "The dress was bedazzled enough."
Rachelle Rose Hair styled Alyssa's hair down because that's how she feels most confident, she told BI. Allison Vecchio Makeup was her makeup artist for the day.
Her shoes were bejeweled, too.
Alyssa chose Aquazzura heels, which featured gems that coordinated with her dress and veil.
The Farahs got their wedding rings from Michael Korakas.
Alyssa loved that her wedding dress felt one of a kind.
"I had never seen a dress like it before," Alyssa said of why she fell in love with her gown.
"Everyone loves the big ball gowns and the poofy skirts," she said. " I do, too, and I always thought I'd have a bigger dress."
"But as soon as I saw that one, I was like, 'I can't see myself in anything else now,'" she went on to say. "It's just so different."
Jacob didn't see Alyssa's wedding dress until she walked down the aisle.
Alyssa did a first look with her bridesmaids and her dad, but she saved her dress reveal with Jacob for the moment she walked down the aisle.
"One of my favorite moments of the whole day was seeing him at the end of the aisle," Alyssa said.
"He's an emotional guy, but he's also he's very, very confident," she told BI of her husband. "He gets shy when he knows that everyone's looking at him. So he was trying to compose himself."
Salt Atelier Wedding Photography served as the photographer and videographer for the Farahs' wedding. On The Day Socials also provided content creation services for the event.
Jacob wore all black to the wedding.
Jacob chose a black suit from Mr. Fierze for the wedding.
His shirt, tie, and shoes were also black, and the monochromatic look complemented Alyssa's chic gown.
A white flower on his lapel served as the only pop of color on Jacob's look.
Alyssa's bridesmaids wore black as well.
White Runway designed the dresses Alyssa's bridesmaids wore to the wedding, which almost mirrored her gown.
The strapless mermaid gowns had sweetheart necklines and thigh-high slits.
Alyssa's bridesmaids paired their dresses with black gloves, resembling Alyssa's detached sleeves.
Jacob and Alyssa's reception had a party vibe.
"I said to everyone, 'I just want our wedding to feel like everyone's involved and a part of it, not just me and him,'" she said.
"The formalities are at the beginning, but once they're all done, then I want everyone to be on the dance floor the whole night," Alyssa added.
They had several forms of entertainment that helped create that vibe at the wedding, including the band ZEA Zaffet El-Arezm and the DJs Steve Play and DJ Pkayy.
The couple's wedding also featured a photo booth from Open Booths.
"Go with your gut," Alyssa advised brides shopping for wedding dresses.
"I don't listen to outside noise too much," Alyssa said. "My sisters, I value their opinion a lot, and I was just lucky that they agreed with me on that dress. But even if they didn't, I still would have chosen it because it just felt like my dress."
Alyssa said she's tired of hearing from brides who regret their wedding dresses because they let other voices drown out their own when they picked a gown.
"Just stick to your guns because you won't regret it," she said.
Alyssa said that Jacob is her best friend.
"It's just fun," she said of her relationship, adding that Jacob is her "go-to person."
"He's the most entertaining person I've ever met in my life. I'll never be bored," she said of her marriage."I just love to laugh, and he makes me laugh all the time."
"We put each other first in every situation," Alyssa said. "He's just my best friend."
