6 things you probably didn't know about the making of 'To All the Boys: Always and Forever'
- Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Netflix's "To All the Boys: Always and Forever."
- There are some things fans might not know about the film.
- For example, stars Lana Condor and Noah Centineo improvised a small moment during the movie.
The third and final film in Netflix's popular rom-com franchise "To All the Boys: I've Loved Before" is now streaming.
"To All the Boys: Always and Forever" wraps up Lara Jean Song Covey's (played by Lana Condor) high school story, as she navigates senior year and makes difficult decisions about her future - and her relationship with Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo).
Here are a few things you probably didn't know about the making of "TATB 3."
1. 'TATB' book series author Jenny Han suggested that part of the film take place at the Instagram-worthy Cafe Yeonnam-dong 223-14
In the movie, Lara Jean and her sisters spent time at the eye-catching cafe in Seoul, Korea that's designed to resemble a 2-D image.
Han told Insider that the location inspiration came to her from a friend who frequently visits Korea. The writer said that she asked her friend to share "all the hot spots and the beautiful places to shoot in," and she recommended this cafe.
"I was begging the producers to go look at it," Han said, "And they did, and they loved it too. So, I was really happy that it made it into the film."
2. Members of the 'TATB 3' film crew left locks on the fence at Namsan Tower in Seoul
Early in the movie during Lara Jean's trip to Korea, she visited Namsan Tower and searched for a lock put their years prior by her late mom. After locating it, she and the rest of the Covey family intertwined the lock with a new one.
Director Michael Fimognari and his family (plus others) left love locks on the fence at Namsan Tower in Seoul once filming wrapped, per the film's press notes.
Condor also shared a photo of a red and white lock that was added to the fence in honor of "TATB 3."
3. Condor and Centineo improvised a heartfelt moment between their characters
While visiting Little Cupcake Bakeshop during their school trip to NYC, Lara Jean told Peter that she didn't get accepted to Stanford. Because they'd be attending separate school in the fall, she feared that they'd drift apart and break up.
After Peter offered a solution to make the relationship work, Lara Jean felt relieved.
Then Peter told Lara Jean, "You was tripping out. Why?" and she replied, "I was scared."
"I think when we were pulling out of the scene and they were sort of relieved, there's a line there that felt very natural to me that I don't think was in the script," Han told Insider of the improvised moment.
On Twitter, Condor also revealed that she improvised the "yeah" that Lara Jean said after Peter told her that she should have been accepted to Stanford because she's much smarter than him.
4. The Empire State Building was lit up in the franchise's signature colors - pink, blue, and yellow - specifically for the night scenes filmed in NYC
Those three colors are sprinkled throughout the franchise, and it's no coincidence that the iconic skyscraper featured them during the rooftop party that Lara Jean attended.
While reacting to the film's trailer in a video for Netflix, Condor said that getting the iconic building lit up to match the movie was "one of the biggest accomplishments of my whole entire career, and I had nothing to do with it."
"It was a huge moment," she said.
Similarly, Han told People, "That was probably the most exciting thing for me."
"New Yorkers always look at the colors and wonder why there are certain colors at night and it was like a juicy little secret that we had when we were filming that night in New York," she said.
5. Condor stole some of Peter's letters to Lara Jean and other props from the set
"I'm a thief," Condor admitted during an interview with Australian radio host Smallzy. "I'm surprised production hasn't come for me. I've taken so much."
The actress said that specifically, she took props with sentimental value.
"I took a lot of letters that Peter wrote to Lara Jean," she said. "I took a lot of pictures that were in her bedroom as physical pieces of my heart. So I stole quite a bit, but you know what? I also, I feel like it's mine."
In an interview for MTV News, the actress said that she also took a photo frame (sans the picture) from Lara Jean's room because she thought it would look "cute" in her house.
6. Centineo also took a few mementos from the set
"I steal something from almost every set," the actor said in an interview with Condor for MTV News. "We have to. I feel like it's a right of passage."
Centineo said that he "stole" three books, his character's pink bowling jersey, and his cast chair that has his name written on it.
