- Celebrities walked the red carpet ahead of the 2024 Golden Globes on Sunday.
- While some wore daring looks, others missed the mark with their outfit choices.
The 81st annual Golden Globes took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California on Sunday.
Celebrities walked the red carpet in dramatic ballgowns with sparkles and sheer details. But the awards ceremony also had some looks that missed the mark, from overly simple dresses to forgettable color choices.
Here are six Golden Globes looks that missed the mark, in our opinion.
Molly Sims' one-shoulder gown was beautiful but it had too many overwhelming details.

Actress Molly Sims wore a one-shoulder, floor-length gown with an oversized floral detail and an extravagant train from Georges Chakra Couture's fall/winter 2023-2024 collection.
Sims' hair was styled in a low bun and she accessorized with a gold clutch bag by Jeffrey Levinson and diamond earrings by Norman Silverman, according to the actress' Instagram story.
The ensemble was certainly eye-catching, but the dress had too many distracting details and would have worked better with a smaller floral detail or without the train.
Helen Mirren's all-purple ensemble was more like a costume than a red-carpet look.

Helen Mirren wore a purple gown with a ruched waistline, balloon sleeves, and a floor-length lilac coat. She rounded off the look with silver open-toe heels, a matching clutch bag, a diamond necklace, and diamond drop earrings.
The dress was a bold choice, and Mirren should be praised for bringing a splash of color to the red carpet. However, the ruched fabric and oversized sleeves would have been more suited to a fancy-dress costume than a formal ensemble.
Elle Fanning's vintage gown would have looked stunning in a different color.

Elle Fanning wore a 1960s strapless ballgown with a bow detail and balloon skirt from Balmain's archive collection, paired with a diamond necklace and matching earrings by Cartier, the actress' stylist Samantha McMillen wrote on her Instagram story.
The ivory gown exuded elegance, but a warmer color would have stood out more on the red carpet.
Jennifer Aniston's strapless black gown was forgettable.

Jennifer Aniston's custom Dolce & Gabbana gown featured a strapless neckline and a floor-length beaded skirt, according to the brand's Instagram post. The gown was too simple and forgettable, especially compared to the range of daring looks at the awards ceremony.
However, one notable detail from Aniston's look was her hairstyle. Several outlets, including People and Harper's Bazaar, reported that the actress' shorter hairstyle and side parting were reminiscent of "The Rachel," a choppy bob worn by Aniston's character in "Friends" in the 1990s.
Riley Keough's Chanel gown would have been more fitting for a wedding than an awards ceremony.

"Daisy Jones and the Six" actress Riley Keough wore a floor-length lace gown with a flowing train from Chanel's Spring 2023 Haute Couture collection. The strapless dress was paired with a sheer overlay that had gold sequinned details on the neckline.
While the dress was beautiful, it looked more fitting for a wedding ceremony than a red-carpet event.
Emma Stone's floral gown faded into the matching background.

Emma Stone wore a sequinned Louis Vuitton gown that had a plunging neckline and thigh-high slit.
The dress was embroidered with flowers that matched the red carpet's cream-and-pink floral backdrop, though it's not known whether this was a deliberate choice on Stone's part.
The dress was a sophisticated choice, but it didn't stand out and instead faded into the background.
