Having a miscarriage can be devastating, but those who have gone through it are not alone. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, one in 10 known pregnancies ends in miscarriage.
Many public figures have spoken out about their own pregnancy losses, helping to dispel some of the misinformation surrounding pregnancy loss and help other individuals who have miscarried to feel less alone.
Here are a few celebrities who have shared their own experiences with miscarriage and pregnancy loss:
Beyoncé said she suffered a miscarriage before giving birth to her first child.
In a 2013 interview with Oprah, Beyoncé opened up about the miscarriage she had before the birth of her first child, Blue Ivy.
"There are so many couples that go through that and it was a big part of my story," Beyoncé said.
"It's one of the reasons I did not share I was pregnant the second time because you don't know what's going to happen. And that was hard because all of my family and my friends knew and we celebrated. It was hard," she continued.
And, in a December 2019 interview with Elle magazine, the musician said that experiencing a miscarriage changed her perspective on success.
"I began to search for deeper meaning when life began to teach me lessons I didn't know I needed. Success looks different to me now," she told the publication. "I learned that all pain and loss is, in fact, a gift. Having miscarriages taught me that I had to mother myself before I could be a mother to someone else."
Chrissy Teigen spoke about suffering pregnancy loss after getting hospitalized for excessive bleeding.
On Wednesday, model Chrissy Teigen shared an emotional post on Twitter about suffering pregnancy loss after being hospitalized for days.
"We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we've never felt before," Teigen wrote alongside a black-and-white photo of herself crying in a hospital bed.
Teigen was pregnant with her third child with husband John Legend.
In September, she'd shared that she was put on bed rest for two weeks. On Sunday, she was admitted to the hospital after she experienced severe bleeding.
Teigen shared that she underwent two blood transfusions and passed a blood clot. She said the bleeding was a result of a "weak placenta."
Comedian Ali Wong said she has opened up about her experience in a stand-up routine.
In 2019, actress and comedian Ali Wong told Health magazine that she is open to covering all topics during her comedy routines, including her miscarriage experience.
Wong, who has two daughters, said she "didn't realize miscarrying was a thing that could happen," which is why she told everyone about her third pregnancy when she was seven weeks along.
"That's why I told everybody [about the pregnancy]. I told the lady who cleans my house and when she found out I was seven weeks along, she told me I shouldn't be telling people," she told the publication. "Now I know why — it's because then you have to tell everyone the bad news."
She also pointed out that some people have had "insensitive reactions" by trying to figure out why the miscarriage happened — even though miscarriages are fairly common and typically have an unidentifiable cause.
"Like, they will ask if it's because you had sushi or you were performing too much. They want to point to some cause and don't realize how bad that makes you feel," Wong said.
Actor James Van Der Beek opened up about his and his wife's experience dealing with miscarriages.
In October 2019, "Dawson's Creek" star James Van Der Beek and his wife Kimberly Brook announced that they are expecting their sixth child together.
In the same announcement, he also opened up about their struggles with previous miscarriages, saying there should be "zero shame around it."
On Instagram, he wrote that the word "miscarriage" should be replaced because "nobody failed to 'carry,' these things sometimes just happen" and said this experience is something people rarely talk about, even though it's OK to take time to grieve.
"We decided to put ourselves out there — not knowing what we'd find — in an effort to chip away at any senseless stigma around this experience and to encourage people who might be going through it to open themselves up to love & support from friends and family when they need it most," he continued.
In November of that year, he shared that his wife suffered a miscarriage.
Hilaria Baldwin has shared many parts of her difficult experience on Instagram.
On April 5, 2019, Hilaria Baldwin shared a candid post on her Instagram, writing that based on her personal experiences and input from her doctors, she believes that her current pregnancy is not viable and that she is currently experiencing the early stages of a miscarriage.
"I have always been so open with you all about my family, fitness, pregnancies ... and I don't want to keep this from you, just because it isn't as positive and shiny as the rest," she continued.
Baldwin also explained that she wants to help raise awareness about this topic, writing, "I want to be a part of the effort to normalize miscarriage and remove the stigma from it." And she added that she feels "no shame or embarrassment" about this experience.
A few days later, in an Instagram post, she shared that she had a miscarriage. "I hope this conversation continues to grow and that we stick together through both the beautiful and challenging moments in life," she wrote.

She said that she got nervous once all of her usual pregnancy symptoms (similar to ones she experienced for her first pregnancy) suddenly stopped.
Port said that's when she began to process what was happening — and the grief she felt was "all-consuming." She shared that it was especially difficult to keep herself together in front of her 2-year-old son, Sonny.
"It's like a death is happening inside your body, and you're also supposed to show up for your child that you have and you can't really be sad in front of them, and you're just confused if your feelings are okay [or] if they're too dramatic," she added.
"Pretty Little Liars" star Shay Mitchell told fans on Instagram that she had a miscarriage in 2018.
While looking back at her 2018, actress Shay Mitchell wrote a heartfelt Instagram story to her followers that discussed her own miscarriage after sharing a photo of her ultrasound.
"We all have to deal with various struggles and challenges in life. And sometimes it's easier to only showcase the good times on social media, which is what leads many people to criticize it for its lack of authenticity," Mitchell wrote.
"Having so many people follow me on Instagram and read my posts is both incredibly humbling and hugely uplifting. The support and affection that so many of you show me lifts me up during even my darkest days, one of which happened last year after I miscarried and lost the child of my hopes and dreams," she added.
She said she hoped in the spirit of New Year's resolutions, she hoped people would be more "compassionate, empathetic, patient, and thoughtful with each other."

"I wasn't drinking. I wasn't doing drugs. I was f---ing overworked — in the hospital every couple of weeks because I was dehydrated, needing bags of IVs brought to my green room. I was anemic, I was fainting. My body just broke the f--- down," she added.

On television. My husband had to watch this unfold from more than a thousand miles away, texting me hospital options during commercial breaks," Walsh wrote.

In an interview for Dr. Berlin's "Informed Pregnancy" podcast, the"Fantastic Four" actress spoke about how she had "miscarried pretty early on" the first time she was ever pregnant.
The actress explained that she had "a blighted ovum" though she didn't know what it meant at the time. She said her doctor told her this meant she miscarried "but it hasn't left [her] body yet." Mara said it also meant her body still thought it was pregnant and that she may have to wait months to miscarry naturally.
"Everything just took so much time, so by the time it was all over, I mean, I had been pregnant for three months or something even though I wasn't really pregnant. It just dragged out forever," she added.
Mara said that since she suffered a miscarriage, she was hesitant and a bit fearful the next time she got pregnant.
"It was weird, this bittersweet sort of ... I was so excited, but also sad that we weren't as excited as we were the first time, because that was clear that it was a very different dynamic. It makes perfect sense," she added.
