- Fashion helps set the tone for a wedding day.
- From ball gowns to bold suits, 2023 brides and grooms had fun with their wedding looks.
Like any type of fashion, wedding style evolves over time as new trends come in and out of style.
And in 2023, brides and grooms embraced a sense of fun as they experimented with their wedding outfits.
Dresses with sheer fabric, suits with pops of color, and gowns featuring dramatic slits were all popular at 2023 weddings, but so were classic staples like sparkles and architectural detailing.
Here's a look at some of the best — and boldest — dresses, jumpsuits, and suits brides and grooms wore this year.
Brides weren't afraid to make bold statements with their wedding looks.
Paisli B's Matopeda wedding dress hugged her figure and was covered in sparkly embellishments.
Details like a detachable train, a thigh-high slit, and an architectural shoulder strap made the gown one of a kind. A jewel-encrusted garter and a sparkly hairpiece completed Paisli's look, which Reem Photography captured.
Some gowns offered two looks in one.
The base of Maddie Johnston's custom Paolo Sebastian wedding look was a semi-sheer lace romper. It had long sleeves and a high neckline, giving her a fun look for her convertible ride to her reception.
But when she added the tulle overskirt with a thigh-high slit to the look, she had a more traditional bridal outfit. CALLA ESSE photographed her wedding.
Other dresses stood out with sheer detailing.
As photographed by Kristine Grinvalde, Jazmine Marie Louis chose a form-fitting ÉLYSÉE Bridal gown for her wedding.
The lace detailing on the gown made its form-fitting, scooped neckline stand out, as well as the train. Detachable, sheer sleeves added to the elegance of the look.
Three-dimensional detailing elevated simple silhouettes.
Oscar de la Renta designed bride Allison's ball gown. The silhouette was classic, with its full skirt and strapless neckline, but three-dimensional, floral appliqué on the bodice and skirt gave it a modern edge.
A floor-length veil complemented the gown's train, as Heather Waraksa's photo highlights.
Some brides gravitated toward daring details.
Jessica Cromartie wore a gown from Miranda's Couture by Portia and Scarlett for her big day.
The gown's corset bodice had sheer panels on the sides and center of the bodice, coordinating with a see-through panel on her hip. The panel gave way to a daring slit that showed off her legs.
Silver embellishments were embroidered all over the dress, making it sparkle in Denisse Myrick's photos.
Others embraced subtle pops of color.
Jesse Pafundi of Golden Hour Studios photographed a bride who wore a colorful Amsale dress to her wedding.
The strapless gown's corset bodice contrasted with the flowy skirt, and the dress was adorned with pastel-printed flowers, giving it an ethereal feel.
Simple didn't mean boring for 2023 wedding gowns.
Lavel Marie Photography snapped this shot of Emily Rommelman in her Sarah Seven dress on her wedding day.
The form-fitting gown featured a scooped, off-the-shoulder neckline that turned into sheer, long sleeves. The dress hugged her figure, and the skirt featured a thigh-high slit, showing off the bride's Jimmy Choo heels.
Embroidered details were the best part of some dresses.
Val Taguba Bridal Couture designed Krizian's A-line dress with sheer, off-the-shoulder sleeves and a dramatic train.
The gown was covered in floral appliqué that cascaded down the skirt, adding to the drama of the look. Kristine Grinvalde photographed the wedding.
Trains added drama to many gowns.
Photographed by LaJoy Photography, this bride chose a Jane Hill Bridal dress for her wedding.
The strapless bodice had architectural detailing, while the skirt flowed into a statement train. A thigh-high slit brought a modern flare to the look.
Modern silhouettes stunned in 2023.
Phil and Kat photographed two grooms who brought a fresh feel to suits with their wedding ensembles.
One groom's green suit had an asymmetrical jacket that belted low on his waist, and they coordinated with flared, pleated pants.
His husband chose a white suit with a standing collar, oversized buttons, and a ribbon flowing from under the jacket. Both looked modern yet timeless.
Many couples wore complementary looks.
Jennie and Chris Claydon-White leaned into the European countryside aesthetic for their French wedding, which Lauren Knuckey Photography captured.
Jennie's Alena Leena Bridal gown was simple, with its modern sweetheart neckline and A-line skirt. But details like its ruffled sleeves and a cutout in the back gave it a feminine edge.
Chris matched Jennie's aesthetic with his tan Marc Darcy suit, which he wore with no tie for a more relaxed look.
Nontraditional accessories like capes elevated many looks.
Boutique designer Chotronette made this playful pink gown, as photographed by MKR Photos.
The strapless dress had a corset bodice, and the entire gown was covered in a pattern of pink and green flowers. A coordinating, sheer cape completed the ensemble.
Many unforgettable gowns featured illusion detailing.
Toni Norton's custom Alonuko gown almost looked like a second skin, as it was made of the designer's one-of-a-kind sheer tulle.
The form-fitting gown was adorned with floral lace on the high neckline, sleeves, and bodice, making it look like it was carved into her skin. A ruffled train added volume to the dress. Stanlo Photography documented her wedding.
Unexpected fabrics created playful looks.
Sienna Turecamo Photography captured Jenny on her wedding day as she wore a gown covered in 3D floral appliqué.
A minidress served as the base of the gown, and it was covered in a sheer overlay with long sleeves and an ankle-length skirt. The floral embellishments popped on the transparent fabric.
Brides loved voluminous skirts in 2023.
Allure Bridals designed bride Carly's ethereal dress for her wedding, which MKR Photos photographed.
The tulle A-line gown had a subtle blush hue, and the bodice was covered in floral lace that spilled onto the skirt. Details like off-the-shoulder sleeves and a thigh-high slit added to the romantic aesthetic of the gown.
Other brides had fun with jumpsuits.
Malak Kader Bone chose a custom Albina Dyla jumpsuit for her wedding reception look.
The sheer jumpsuit had a sweetheart neckline that dipped low, and the form-fitting ensemble turned into flared pants. The entire bodysuit was covered in intricate floral lace and featured a train attached at the waist.
The train looked like a skirt, flowing out behind Bone, giving it a bridal feel despite the modern silhouette. Diptych Studio photographed Bone's nuptials.
Some brides combined sparkles and flowers.
Claire bucked tradition at her wedding — which was photographed by The Kensington Photographer — by wearing a pink floral dress from Temperley London.
The dropped-waist gown had a sparkly bodice covered in multicolored flowers, off-the-shoulder sleeves, and a semi-sheer, tulle skirt. Her transparent veil was lined with flowers, completing the ensemble.
Many looks balanced daring details with elegance.
The neckline of Stephanie's Galia Lahav gown plunged to her navel, flowing into a mermaid skirt.
Lace appliqué adorned the gown before flowing into a voluminous train, and the entire look was accented by her floor-length veil and bejeweled tiara. Willow & Wilde captured the bride on her wedding day.
No matter what, brides and grooms looked stunning on their wedding days.
Albina Dyla designed Ciara Brown's heavily bejeweled illusion wedding gown.
As photographed by YNOT iMages, Brown's dress had an asymmetrical, strapless neckline lined with sparkly embellishments. An underlayer of silver fabric provided coverage on the bodice, while the skirt was sheer on her legs, putting focus on the floral lace lining the gown.
A detachable skirt added even more drama to the look.
