Gulaab Gang

Gulaab Gang

Though it was not something that was released officially, the official Facebook page of the movie had this poster as the first profile picture, and the impact that this had on the audience can’t be summed up in words. The movie starred Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla and was rumored to be based on Sampat Pal Devi, a woman who heads an all women gang to fight the evils of society. The movie was made for Rs 12 crores and couldn’t do any wonders at the box office. It managed to collect approximately Rs 13 crores in the first week, before being declared a flop.

The movie was an unexpected hit at the box office, but we could have guessed that it would be an entertainer all thanks to this poster. Kangana Ranaut played Rani, a young woman who gets dumped a night before her wedding but decides to go to her honeymoon all by herself. The special thing that we liked in the poster was the way kurti-clad Ranaut shakes her booty with Mehendi on her hands. Also, not to forget the neat ‘Jai Mata Di’ written below the release date gave the poster the much required Delhi touch. The movie, made at a shoestring budget of Rs 12 crores did wonders at the box office, and collected almost Rs 100 crores, proving to be a surprise hit.

The movie was based on a best-selling novel, so there was no scope of keeping the audience in suspense. The makers instead decided to use the knowledge that people had about the movie and designed this poster, showing the lead pair Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor trying to hold hands while lying down on a map. Really creative, we must say. The movie had an ensemble cast and was made for Rs 35 crores. It collected more than Rs 160 crores at the box office and was declared a hit.

We all love Riteish Deshmukh for the fun-loving and jovial (and sometimes debaucherous) characters that he plays, and it was indeed a shock to see him giving an evil smile in the poster of this movie. Add to it the fact that the poster showed half his face and half of Sidharth Malhotra, with the leading lady Shradhha Kapoor standing between them, and we had a movie to look forward to. The movie made for almost Rs 35 crores was a hit after collecting Rs 105 crores in three weeks.

We had long waited to see how Shahid Kapoor would look in a bald hairdo, but the poster of the movie showed us much more than that. The poster of the movie didn’t only show him in all his bald glory, but also holding a human skeleton in his hand, giving us a hint for what was in the store for this thriller. The film was made for Rs 24 crores and collected almost Rs 60 crores, being declared a hit at the box office.

Even if we were not doing this list in a chronological order, Pk would still have topped the list. The movie poster that showed us Aamir Khan fully naked with nothing but an old radio saving his modesty became the talk of the town, sparking debates and online wars amongst those who liked it and those who didn’t. It also gave the movie the much-needed curiosity regarding Khan’s character, resulting in the movie being flooded by audience in the first few days of its release. The movie, made for Rs 85 crores, has already collected close to Rs 120 crores, in just a week of its release.
