10 Bollywood Trends That Should End In 2014

Story-less films

Story-less films
For a change, let’s put our story writers to work in 2014 and take a break from mindless plots and zero-story movies. If you have watched films like Krrish 3, Besharam, Policegiri, Boss and Rangrezz, to name a few, you know what we are talking about.

Senseless sequels

Senseless sequels
With the debacle that Dhoom 3 turned out to be (and we don’t mean the BO here, quite otherwise), Indian directors must have realised by now that they can’t cash in on super-hit movies by churning out dud sequels. Some other sequels that turned out to be as bad (from the ‘good cinema’ point of view) included Krrish 3, Once Upon A Time in Mumbai Dobaraa and Yamla Pagla Deewana 2.

Boring animations

Boring animations
India has a long way to go when it comes to churning out good animation movies. Case in point – Mahabharat 3D¬ – which never gave that 3D effect and even the caricatures and voiceover of India’s biggest stars could not save this sinking ship.

Never-ending seasons of reality shows

Never-ending seasons of reality shows
Imagine this – Bigg Boss 35 with Gauhar and Kushaal’s kids as contestants; Nach Baliye 69 judged by a 108-year-old Shilpa Shetty, Koffee with Karan Season 25 with Aryan Khan and Aaradhya Bachchan on couch. If the current trend of never-ending reality shows continues, the above-said can be a reality. Let’s get over with them and think of some out-of-the-box and wacky reality shows, which are good enough to inspire the west and not vice versa.

Rani Mukherjee-Aditya Chopra marriage

Rani Mukherjee-Aditya Chopra marriage
It seems we have got late in compiling this list as the first few days of the New Year brought us yet another announcement of the epic match involving Rani Mukherjee and Aditya Chopra. Seriously, what is the big deal if the two finally marry this year or we get to know that they have already tied the knot or they don’t marry at all, for that matter? Aditya is, in any case, a mysterious man in Bollywood whom no one knows well and Rani is rarely seen these days. So how does it matter whether they marry or not?

Cheap sex comedies

Cheap sex comedies
We don’t want an overflow of double-entendres – jokes and dialogues loaded with sexual innuendoes in the name of sex comedies – like what we had seen in Grand Masti. The only thing ‘grand’ about this movie was ‘disgust’ and that oozed from every frame. Let’s take a break from such sleaze in 2014.

Salman-Shah Rukh saga

Salman-Shah Rukh saga
This never-ending Salman-SRK ‘fight-patch-up-fight-patch-up’ saga should come to an end in 2014. We had an overdose of these stories over the past few years, especially after the ‘Iftaar party hug.’ It’s the season of bromance in Bollywood – so let’s enjoy that and let the Khans live their own life.

Remakes

Remakes
After watching the sacrilegious Zanjeer, suicidal Himmatwala and blasphemous Chashme Baddoor in 2013, we think the government should issue a permanent ban on remakes. We are sure the people associated with the cult classics that the original were, must have thought of killing the makers of the remakes. Let’s think original, guys!

Sonakshi Sinha

Sonakshi Sinha
Now, how much is too much and how long can you go with the flow? Didn’t we have an overdose of the big and bountiful Sonakshi Sinha over the last couple of years? Four films and one item number in 2012; again four films and two item numbers in 2013 – this perpetual increase in screen time enjoyed by Sonakshi could be injurious to audience’s health. So it’s high time her movies start coming in with a statutory warning. Barring Lootera, this actress looks the same in every film… Well, even John Abraham has learnt to give expressions now… And that’s all we want to say for now.
