I went to the 'My Little Pony' fashion show during New York Fashion Week - here's what I saw
Walking into New York City's Pier 59 Studios, I had no idea what to expect.
I only knew the title of the show was called "Friendship Is Magic," and the invitation had promised there would be cake.
Inside, I was accosted by rainbows. There were 15 models in colorful ensembles posing in front of a backdrop of clouds and giant, smiling flowers.
Everywhere you looked, there were nods to My Little Pony.
Some were obvious, like this shirt. Make sure you check out the knitted ruffles on this model's shorts.
Some were smaller, like this purse, which this model is using to cover one of her electric purple eyebrows.
This model's top even had the name of a My Little Pony, Dash, knitted into it.
The models also had My Little Pony-themed manicures.
I wanted this season to celebrate friendship," Lindsay Degen told TI. "I reached out to 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic' because I thought it would be the perfect collaboration ... I am also a huge fan of the TV show!
Tevas were the footwear of choice at the show. Socks, apparently, were optional.
Unlike the catwalkers at a traditional runway show, Degen's models stood positioned in a tableau for an hour.
Twin sisters Coco and Breezy stood at the center. "The models kind of arranged themselves," Degen said. "But I wanted Coco and Breezy to be in the front because they perfectly show the strength of friendship."
Degen is known for her intricate knitted designs. Check out the crazy sweater and hat in this look.
I usually start from sketches and create swatches trying to replicate the feel of my drawings," Degen told TI of her creative process. "Then I make patterns that involve a lot of math — that's the technical part — then we knit.
Attendees couldn't stop snapping pictures of the colorful collection. Based on this model's lime green braided up do, we can see why.
This model made sure to grab a selfie before she hit the stage.
As promised, there was cake.

"I believe that anything you can imagine can be represented in knitting," Degen told TI.
Attendees picked up pink gift bags from a table covered in glitter on their way out of the show.
Inside the bag there were several colorful goodies, including a bottle of nail polish, "Unicorn Snot" body glitter, and even a "My Little Pony" figurine to take home.
