Engineering graduates in India are far more employable than MBAs: survey

• India Skill Report 2019 has found in a survey that engineering graduates are more employable than MBAs.
  
• The survey parameters included employability and a skills test. Over 300,000 people appeared for the test and were evaluated on various subjects including English, critical thinking, numerical aptitude, domain knowledge and behavioural competence.
  
• Over the last two years, Andhra Pradesh has been consistently the most employable state in the country followed by West Bengal and Delhi. Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have made it to the list of top 10 states for year 2019.

Engineering graduates in India have been found to be the far more employable than the country’s MBA graduates, India Skill Report 2019, an annual survey, has shown.

According to the survey, MBA graduates appear to have lost considerable ground, with employability falling six percentage points over a five-year period to 36.4%, according to the survey findings reported by the Times of India. Over the same five-year period, employability rate of engineering graduates went up by six percentage points to 57.1%

Andhra Pradesh was ranked as number one with the highest employable talent for the second year in a row followed by West Bengal and Delhi. Graduates from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana were also ranked in the list of top 10 states for year 2018-2019.

Kerala, which ranked at fifth place last year, lost ground and wasn’t even in the top 10 in the latest rankings, according to the survey.

Growth of employable talent in India has expanded beyond just metro cities, the report highlighted, with a steep rise in the female employability from 38% to 46%.

Skills that were most in demand were artificial intelligence, research & development and design analytics.

The survey was done on the basis of work, employability and skills test conducted between 15 July to 30 October. Over 300,000 people appeared for the test and were evaluated on various subjects including English, critical thinking, numerical aptitude, domain knowledge and behavioural competence.

It was conducted by People Strong, Wheebox and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Association of Indian Universities.
