Elon Musk seeking import duty exemption before launching Tesla in India

Tesla founder Elon Musk has hinted at its probable debut in India in response to a tweet, saying that it is holding talks with the government to temporarily exempt the multi-billion dollar company from import duties.

He also hinted that Tesla might set up a local plant in India to produce its Model 3 sedan.

To this, Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma, who has pre-booked Tesla's Model 3 amongst several other Indian entrepreneurs and executives also tweeted to know if there would be an additional option for right-hand-drive Model X in India.

It was in February that the talk of Tesla launching its electric sedan in India started, when Musk stated in reply to a car enthusiast that he was hoping for a summer debut in India.
