- A former postdoctoral researcher sent an 800-page manifesto and a threatening video to UCLA.
- Classes were canceled following the threat, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The philosophy department at the University of California Los Angeles canceled in-person classes after a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer sent an 800-page manifesto to staff members and posted a video to YouTube on Sunday entitled "UCLA PHILOSOPHY (MASS SHOOTING)," according to the Los Angeles Times.
Footage in the background of the video shows clips from a 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas and the 2003 movie "Zero Day," which the Times reported is loosely based on the Columbine High School shooting.
While the video has been removed from the platform, the researcher uploaded more than 350 videos to his YouTube channel in the last 24 hours, with titles such as "UCLA PHILOSOPHY IS RACIST AND OPENLY RACIST," "im a p*dophile, ladies im a p*dophile," and "how to kill an enemy."
YouTube disabled the account on Monday night due to "multiple or severe violations" of its policy prohibiting hate speech.
The UCLA Police Department acknowledged on Twitter it was aware of the threats and has communicated with the proper law enforcement agencies.
