THE Impact Ranking 2022

The Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings are global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The overall ranking includes 1,406 universities from 106 countries and regions.

Indian universities in top 1000

In total, 25 universities from India are ranked in the top 1000, while 11 were ranked in the top 500 rankings.

Indian universities in top 100

Two Indian universities were ranked in the top 100 list — Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham at the 41st spot and Lovely Professional University at the 74th position.

Western Sydney University, Australia (Rank 1)

Overall score: 99.1 | One of the top ranking public institutions of higher education in Greater Western Sydney, Australia, which is known for its research and innovative teaching techniques. The university has significantly worked on these SDGs — clean water and sanitisation, responsible consumption and production, gender equality, and partnerships for the goals.

Arizona State University (Tempe), United States (Rank 2)

Overall score: 98.5 | Public-research university located in the Phoenix metropolitan area, it is known to be one of the largest universities in terms of enrollment. The university has majorly contributed towards life below water, life on land and partnerships for the goals.

Western University, Canada (Rank 3)

Overall score: 97.8 | One of the leading research universities in Canada have largely worked on these SDGs — no poverty, zero hunger, industry innovation and infrastructure and partnerships for the goals.

King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia (Rank 4)

Overall score: 97.5 | Established in 1967, it is ranked as one of the best private universities in Saudi Arabia. The university has shown a remarkable contribution towards industry innovation and infrastructure, quality education, reduced inequalities, and partnerships for the goals.

Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia (Rank 4)

Overall score: 97.5 | Founded in 1969, it is also a public research university and one of the oldest higher education institutions in Northern Malaysia. With an overall score of 97.5, the university has largely contributed to peace, justice and strong institutions.

Overall score: 96.6 | With a low acceptance rate of 42 percent, Queen’s university in Canada is one of the hardest universities to get into. The public-research university has largely contributed to no poverty, and sustainable cities and communities.

Overall score: 96.5 | The university is a red brick university and a member of the Russell Group, which is an association of research-intensive UK universities. With a score of 96.5, it has extensively worked on sustainable cities and communities, and industry innovation and infrastructure.

University of Manchester, United Kingdom (Rank 8)
