  • Delhi’s Deputy CM Manish Sisodia has rolled out major reforms in the education system.
  • Sisodia instructed that no private school in the national capital will be allowed to increase fees during lockdown and will only charge monthly tuition fees from students.
  • Even if parents are unable to pay the fee on time, the schools cannot restrict students from accessing online sessions.
  • In addition, the Delhi government has also directed the school administrations to pay salaries of both contractual and permanent staff until the lockdown lifts on May 3.
As the extended nationwide lockdown delays the academic year even further, Delhi’s Deputy CM Manish Sisodia has rolled out major reforms in the education system.

Sisodia said that no private school in the national capital will be allowed to increase fees during lockdown. Also, they will only charge monthly tuition fees from students, as they attend online classes, PTI reports. Usually, the schools charge fees quarterly in advance.

“It has come to my notice that many schools are taking fees arbitrarily and charging transportation fees even when schools are closed. Be it private or government schools, they cannot hike fees,” Sisodia told ANI.

Even if parents are unable to pay fees on time, schools can’t restrict students from accessing online sessions. "Education and the economy were worst affected by the COVID-19 crisis. We are taking online classes and taking various steps to ensure education to the students of government school," he said.

If schools refuse to adhere to the rules, the government can take action under the Epidemic Act and Education Act. In addition, the Delhi government also directed the school administrations to pay salaries of both contractual and permanent staff until the lockdown lifts on May 3.
