The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023 ranked 1,799 universities across 104 countries and regions. Oxford University, Harvard and Cambridge made it to the top three positions. Here are the India institutions that ranked high in this list.

Rank category: 251-300Founded in 1909 and situated in Bangalore, IIS has six main departments with over 3,000 students. More than 75 scholars of IIS have won the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology (SSB). It ranked 42nd in the Asia University Rankings 2022.

It has more than 700 faculty members that instruct over 7,000 grad and undergrad students, and 500 research scholars. More than 500 students from 26 different countries are currently pursuing various courses at JSS.

Rank category: 401-500Alagappa University is situated in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu. Founded in 1947 as Alagappa Arts College, it has over 4,000 students. It developed 41 international exchange programmes with higher education institutions around the world.

Rank category: 401-500Mahatma Gandhi University, popularly referred to as MGU and founded in 1983. It offers a wide range of academic degrees in bachelors, masters and doctoral programmes. Enrolling over 1,800 students, it also works with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation).

Rank category: 501-600Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar) in Punjab was established in 2009 and has over 2,000 students. It covers chemistry and chemical engineering, physics, mathematics, materials engineering and various humanities subjects among others.

With over 7% international students and over 1,800 students on campus, it offers courses across four departments — computer applications and IT, engineering and architecture, sciences, and arts, humanities and social sciences.

The university was awarded an "A" grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Students are given video recordings of the session in advance, so that the class can begin with a discussion.
