ICSE board to follow CBSE’s decision on pending board examination for classes 10th and 12th

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) is awaiting the Supreme Court’s decision on the pending board exams for classes 10th and 12th under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) — before taking a final decision on conducting exams.

The board said that it will follow CBSE’s decision on conducting remaining exams, said Jaideep Gupta who was representing the ICSE Board during the SC hearing. “At the liberty to tweak the CBSE decision and follow its own informed decision,” the Supreme Court informed ICSE Board.

The verdict was expected to come by July 23, however, the apex court adjourned the hearing to Thursday (June 25). This will impact over a million students who were agonising over the postponement of exams. The pending exams are scheduled to be held in July. After multiple requests from parents, the apex court asked the board to consider scrapping the exams and promote students based on internal assessment and the marks obtained in the exams that have already been conducted.

According to a Mint report, the government may also do away with pending class 10th exams in Delhi today while the decision on Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and NEET is expected by tomorrow evening.

This comes after various state governments including Maharashtra, Odisha and Delhi have requested the government to do away with the pending exams. Given that, the Union Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal held a review meeting with the National Testing Agency (NTA), School Education and Literacy department and CBSE to plan and discuss the examination schedule and reopening of schools.
