The Supreme Court, on Thursday, has accepted the submission by the CBSE on the evaluation criteria for class 12 exams.

According to media reports, the results for class 12 will be announced on July 31. The class 12 results will be evaluated on the basis of class 10 component (30%) i.e., best three performing subjects, class 11 (30%) based on final exams and class 12 (40%) based on unit tests/ pre-board/midterm exams.

Attorney General of India, KK Venugopal, explained the evaluation strategy formulated by CBSE. He said, “CBSE has been in existence since 1929 and this has never happened before in the history of CBSE. They have designed this with a committee of experts. For this purpose CBSE has taken three classes - 10, 11 and 12.”

CBSE had appointed a 13-member committee to recommend the criteria for the evaluation of class 12 students. The Supreme Court had given two weeks’ time to the board to finalise their strategy.

Meanwhile, CBSE has allowed schools to complete their practical exams for class 12 online. Students who are unable to appear for the practical exams due to the second wave of COVID-19 will be given another opportunity to appear. The schools have been directed to conduct the pending tests and practicals and submit the marks by June 28.
