Eamonn Holmes has announced that he is leaving Sky News after 11 years.

Holmes presents the news channel's breakfast show, "Sunrise," and said he wants to pursue other interests, including a "number of documentary projects which I have been stalling for some time."

He will host his final show on 13 October.

In an message on Facebook, Holmes said: "Increasingly in life I have found myself in the fortunate position of having so much to do but little time to do it. This seems an opportune moment to change that."

Holmes said he would continue his work for ITV, where he hosts "This Morning" on a Friday among other projects. He will also remain a fixture on Channel 5, where he presents "Eamonn & Ruth: How The Other Half Lives"  with his wife  Ruth Langsford.

Holmes thanks Sky News head John Ryley for being "very understanding and sympathetic of my decision," adding that it would be hard to leave the channel, which is moving to a new studio in central London this month.

"New studios mean a wonderful chance for new ideas and a new approach with new presenters. I hope they enjoy and respect the privilege of hosting 'Sunrise' and waking up Britain and the world as much as I have," Holmes said.

Ryley said: "Over the past 11 years, Eamonn has been instrumental in turning 'Sunrise' into a show that has become a morning must watch and has a faithful following who begin the day with him and his team.

"There are very few presenters who can challenge their interviewee with acute questions combined with infectious charm - Eamonn does that. A true pro. We wish him the very best of luck in the future."
