Chicago Bulls star Dwyane Wade said Donald Trump's remarks following his cousin's shooting death in Chicago left "a bad taste" in his mouth.

In an interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos, the NBA star admitted that he was "conflicted" because Trump's statement raised awareness about the violence in Chicago, but also also seemed to be politically motivated.

"I was grateful that it started a conversation but on the other hand it was just a bad taste in my mouth because of what my family is dealing with and what our city of Chicago is dealing with and it looks like it is being used as political gain," Wade said.

Last week, the Republican presidential candidate tweeted, "Dwyane Wade's cousin was just shot and killed walking her baby in Chicago. Just what I have been saying. African-Americans will VOTE TRUMP!"

Trump's campaign of late has been trying to appeal to African-American voters after polls showed the GOP nominee lagging behind among the demographic.

In his pitch to attract African-American voters Trump has highlighted impoverished, crime-stricken neighborhoods, often pointing to Chicago as an example.
