Internet writer Matt Drudge meets reporters outside federal court in Washington Wednesday, March 11, 1998, after a preliminary hearing on a $30 million defamation suit filed against him by White House aide Sidney Blumenthal.

  • Conservative media personality Matt Drudge took to Twitter on Wednesday to warn President Donald Trump against his "crusade" on fake news and the impact it could have.
  • Drudge, the founder and editor of the conservative news website the Drudge Report, is reportedly a frequent visitor to the White House.

Conservative media personality Matt Drudge took to Twitter on Wednesday to warn President Donald Trump against his "crusade" on fake news and the impact it could have.

"I fear the future result of Trump's crusade on 'fake news' will be licensing of all reporters," Drudge tweeted. "[Dems already floated this in the senate pre-Trump.] The mop up on this issue is going to be excruciating..."

Drudge's tweet comes just hours after Trump issued his latest attack against the media on Wednesday morning and threatened to strip reporter credentials.

"The Fake News is working overtime," Trump tweeted. "Just reported that, despite the tremendous success we are having with the economy & all things else, 91% of the Network News about me is negative (Fake). Why do we work so hard in working with the media when it is corrupt? Take away credentials?"

Drudge, the founder and editor of the conservative news website the Drudge Report, is reportedly a frequent visitor to the White House.

He has been one of Trump's biggest supporters since the infancy of his candidacy and helped push him through the GOP primary and general election against Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Despite being a very private person, Drudge is extremely influential in Republican circles and has helped promote aspects of Trump's agenda across right-wing media and his base.
