A survey by recruitment start-up Belong has come out with results that prove the dominance of Android developers in the mobile talent pool, stating that they form 72% of the pool.

The India Mobile Talent Landscape Report 2016 from Bengaluru-based Belong also shows that while iOS developers make for 26% of the pool, Windows developers have the least share of a mere 2%.

The survey was done over a representative, randomised sample set of more than 25,000 mobile developers from Belong's database of publicly available and curated profiles.

"As businesses race to capitalise on the opportunities of the new mobile economy, there is intense competition for skilled Android and iOS developers. The truth, however, is that the mobile talent pool in India is still in its very early stages. To help companies better understand the dynamics of this pool and craft effective hiring strategies, we conducted the India Mobile Talent Landscape Report 2016," said Vijay Sharma, CEO of Belong.

Talking of the institutes from where these developers learn the science behind OS development, regional universities like Visvesvaraya Technological University (8.97%) and Anna University (7.88%) have a higher number of mobile developers than prestigious institutes like IIT Delhi (2.79%) and IIT Kharagpur (2.67%). BITS Pilani, however, leads the race by producing 10.5% of mobile talent in India.

Majority of these developers are hired by IT services and computer software sectors, which are much ahead of Internet and e-commerce sectors, who appear on the third and fifth place despite offering more attractive salaries.
