Miami Dolphins wide receiver Kenny Stills criticized the team owner Stephen Ross for his support of President Donald Trump.
Ross, who is also a real estate developer and investor, is hosting a fundraiser for Trump's reelection this Friday at his home in the Hamptons in New York, according to The Washington Post's Michelle Ye Hee Lee. Tickets reportedly cost between $5,600 and $250,000.
Stills criticized Ross for having such a mission statement while supporting Trump.
"You can't have a nonprofit with this mission statement [and] then open your doors to Trump," Stills said, per Wolfe.
Ross is also the chairman of the company that owns Equinox and SoulCycle, two trendy fitness brands. Members and fans of both Equinox and SoulCycle have threatened to boycott the brands over Ross' fundraiser for Trump.
A source close to Ross told Wolfe that Ross and Trump are long-time friends, but Ross does not agree with Trump on all fronts, particularly the president's "rhetoric around race."
"With regards to race, Stephen's record on fighting racism speaks for itself. It is possible to support someone on the basis of some things and not agree with everything about them," the source told Wolfe.
Stills is one of several players who kneeled during the national anthem to protest police violence and systemic racism. He said he plans to continue kneeling, according to Wolfe.
The Dolphins nominated Stills for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award for his work in the community. According to Wolfe, he has also been active in the RISE programs.
