DMK has won 23 seats in Tamil Nadu while the Cong + DMK alliance has won 31 seats in the state.

The state of Tamil Nadu has 39 Lok Sabha constituencies and after the Election Commission withheld the elections in the constituency of Vellore, the 2019 Lok Sabha elections saw polling in 38 seats only. Times Now-VMR exit poll forecasts for the state of Tamil Nadu predict 29 seats for the DMK led alliance in the state. The exit poll result also says the AIADMK – BJP might find their seat winning prospects reduced to a single digit when the results are announced finally. The results of India Today Axis My India Exit Poll predictions say the DMK – Congress alliance can win from 34 to 38 seats in the state of Tamil Nadu, thus forecasting a sweeping victory for the DMK led by MK Stalin. The same predictions say the AIADMK and BJP alliance might win only from zero to 4 seats in Tamil Nadu for the parliament.

In 2014 general elections for the Lok Sabha, the DMK did not win even a single seat in the state. In 2009 parliamentary elections, DMK had secured 18 seats from Tamil Nadu leaving the AIADMK with 9 seats. In 2004 Lok Sabha elections, DMK had scored 16 seats out of 39.

The list of key candidates for the DMK for 2019 Lok Sabha elections are as follows. DMK fielded Jagatrakshagan from Arakkonam, Dayanidhi Maran from Chennai Central, TR Balu from Thiruperumbudur, Kanimozhi Karunanidhi from Thoothukkudi, P Velusamy from Dindigul, and Thamizhachi Thangapadiyan from Chennai South.

The state of Tamil Nadu also voted for its bye elections in 22 assembly constituencies in the state. The election result forecasts for these constituencies predict that DMK could win from 14 out of 22 seats. If this comes true during actual announcement of the results, the Edappadi K Palaniswami’s government might be at stake as it would lose a clear majority.
