The derivatives market got off to the worst possible start this expiry week, with Nifty futures plunging more than 3 percent at the start of trade on Monday. There are no gainers among 161 stock futures today.
The entire line up of 18 sectors is reporting losses of between 1.6 percent and 7.8 percent. Futures in the real estate space are the top losers. Futures in banking, fertiliser, power and capital goods segments are showing maximum losses apart from real estate stocks. All sectors reported a rise in open interest, mostly implying a build up of short positions in the last few trading days of this expiry, which ends on Thursday.
